hey im fairly new to this forum, very little little posts, but i watch this forum alot, ive got a black FEZ zetec, i want a little more zip and grunt on it, with out doing any major modifications to it, ive heard you guys talk about air filters and cold air intakes, can any of you ppl out there sort of gimmie the low down and the deal with what they do and so forth. Thanks.

One of the simpler ways of getting more power without serious modifications to the motor is the use of an upgraded intake system. The basics is that the colder the air is, the more oxygen it contains and the more oxygen you can cram into your motor, the more power you can get from your motor. Superchargers and turbochargers work on this principle but a cold air intake is a cheap way of getting a power boost. I think you can expect a 5-10% increase in power.
As for pod filters, I presume they work on the basis of increasing the airflow without losing efficiency in the filtration itself. Hows that sound?

Bugger all difference you can make really unless they edit or flash your ECU. Just sound and slight responsiveness rather than grunt.

Pod filters, especially on your little fez would make bugger all difference. In summer the very little room you have under your hood makes a power decrease not an increase because you are sucking in extreemly hot air into the intake system, which is very very bad. I would suggest a k&n pannel filter option, and try and duct some cold air from the front of the car into the box. (kind of like the snorkel on the focus).
Like danny said to get decent power out of your car you need to spend alot of $$$$ eg turbo, ecu flash etc. If your after awsome noise, put on a pod, change the exhaust. |

has anyone got any pics of their k&n apollo mountings on their fez and did it make any difference to performance? i had a unifilter rampod on my last car (celica st184r) and it made a big difference...

K&N apollo.
with custom mandrel bent 2 1/4 stainless intake pipe (painted black) The CAI pipe fits on the end of the filter and completely seals itself. so no hot engine bay air gets in, the CAI pipe leads down behind the lower grille, getting loads of fresh cold air.

I would be trying that setup but with some shroud covering the pod enclosing it around the headlight to keep out under bonnet temps
Look at this cai setup on the BA/BF boss motors by G & D http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=2821 maybe a focus design could be adapted. You would have to check out the headlight surround and see how much gap there is around and measure up the shroud, just make out of thin alloy sheet with a hole for the pipe and some 90degree brackets to mount. You will only need 2 holes drilled to hold it in. You could even buy some rubber foam insulation to keep the temps down if the car is going for a while, as the shroud will heat up without it and is very noticeable. I made my own on my XR8 when I had it and made a good difference. Gain may not be as high on a fiesta/focus etc, but may be worth it, especially if it only costs about $140 to make |

I'm thinking that a nice integration of the 206 bonnet vents would help out in combination with a box around the filter. I think it'd look pretty damn nice too.
