i cant understand why they cant show both, its not like SBS schedule is full of quality first run programming.

Sure I like Inspector Rex, but repeating it for the 6th time is a bit to much.

Isnt it the end of the series that they just showed? So I think they're gonna take a few weeks break.

I think it comes down to cost. Up to date seasons of Top Gear would be top dollar, its one of the more popular sort after shows around the world. Mythbusters isn't anywhere near as big, and we only got some old episodes in random order to fill in the summer (because they are cheap).

This is the first week of official ratings and I imagine it was pulled to show the new episodes of Mythbusters...

Which is a good show but come on... Top Gear ROCKS!!

I'm sure that Top Gear pulls more of an audience than MythBusters. I know that I never miss Top Gear but I dont watch MythBusters :p

MrSparkle: I'm glad you said it before I did :P

The latest (series 7) is great, the Ferrari/Ford GT40/Pagani Zonda cruise was great to watch, social cruises like the Gumball always look like fun.

Maybe someone should get onto Eddie and let him know that he could have a ratings winner if he got the more recent episodes of Top Gear.

I love Top Gear. Its the best show ever on TV and Jeremy Clarkson is the best person on TV. I bought all the Top Gear/Jeremy Clarkson DVD's from Amazon.co.uk that i could find. Hours and fun and laughter!! :

I don't think it was unexpected, I think Jeremy alluded to last weeks show being the last in the series, it's a natural place for SBS to end it. Funny how the first 'new' show of Mythbusters is a show about them re-doing myths they've already busted... it's almost a repeat??

Mr Sparkle could you shed the light on how you get these to download fast....

Even with 512 broadband I struggle to get the speed over 10kb/sec and even then it jumps back to 1kb/s and starts slowly building then falling then building ARHHHH!!! I've tried all different programs too but for no avail At this rate it'll take a week just to download 1 episode.

I think they're both different and great shows, wish both could be on. One of the things I like about Top Gear is how fast the segments move from one to another, especially with Jeremy talking over the others and the way it suddenly ends so abruptly each episode.

I read that SBS will show the next series of Top Gear after the World Cup Soccer is finished, whenever that is.

OK, at the risk of sounding like a nerd, I sent SBS an email enquiring about the short lived stint of top gear, and asked if they would show it on another night. Below is the response.

Dear Paul,

We are pleased to inform you that we have purchased a new series of Top
Gear. At this stage the series has been scheduled for Monday the 21st
August at 7.30pm.

Also, a repeat of the first series will begin on Friday 31st of March
at 2pm.

Regards,

So YES, it's going to be back on. To quote one of the great philosophers of our time; "Woohoo"

LTD good stuff

You know that they are going to shove you on Backchat or whatever it is and your email is going to be read out aloud by the SBS voiceover guy.

Anyhow its good news, SBS acknowledges that the people liked top gear.

You can get better performance by ensuring your hardware/software firewalls are allowing traffic through the port used by your torrent software. I use the Azureas torrent client and depending on the number of torrent seeds, it goes pretty quick. Don't use BitTorrent - it's crap. Try Azureas and check it's help file for more settings to tinker with for greater performance.

But all in all it can be a patience tester, at worst it might take a few days to get an episode, but a few days is quicker than 6+ months to wait for it on SBS! :evilking:

Once you've caught up and the next new season starts, you'll find that Mininova (or http://www.finalgear.com) will have episodes up and available for download typically 24hrs after they show in the UK. They generally show at 8pm UK time, meaning the torrents are normally available to start downloading tuesday PM Aus time. I normally would kick one off on a tuesday evening, and it would be done when I woke up ready to watch after work Wednesday.

There's a thread in The Bar about downloading TV shows and the like, I haven't read it but it might help a bit too.

so in august they will be showing season 6 ? by then it will be 2+ years old, i guess thats the way it happens for us on FTA tv here :( as 1st episode of season 8 was on the other day (altho could have been labled wrong)

Franky - you can download a program called BT ENGINE, i have success with that, it speeds my torrents up, getting avg 140-170kbs on a 1500 connection

With Azureas, I can usually get an episode in a couple of hours, even with some of the older episodes.

Aeron, respec.

You obviously thought the same as I, that something that good should not vanish without representation. Hopefully, yourself and I and many others helped sbs in their decision to purchase more and rerun the season they just played.
Personally, I think its great that they listen to the public and whilst obviously at 2pm on a friday it won't get the same ratings, they are prepared to forego that and give the true fans what they want. Well done sbs.

Now all we gotta do is convince the other networks like 10 to stop showing voyeurist brother, and to stop doing their own commentary of the formula 1 instead of the itv commentators, and we'll be set.
