I went down to Bassendean Oval today to check out some old school muscle. Anyone interested in seeing some pics?

And Some More...

Certainly Some Nice Rides There. But true to form, we followed a Valiant Ute back down Guildford Road... until it conked out at a set of traffic lights. Classic.

They had a Chrysler Club day here in Vic today too. It was at the carrebean markets in Scoresby. Some really nice looking coupes......such a shame they don't make cars like these anymore.

My favourite was a green charger coupe with the 440 in it. When they started her up and drove her off.....i nearly creamed my pants.

Sorry no pics :(

The Charger design was just something else... spectacular.
Unfortunately, I'm told while it looked great it was aerodynamically worse than a brick.
Oh well... another excuse for a bigger engine!

They were taken on a Fujifilm 5500
4 megapixel, 10x optical zoom.
Pretty nice middle of the road camera.

Umm I'm gonna take a stab in the dark you're reffering to an AMC Javelin. AMC or American Motors Corporation made the Rambler brand of car for a few years and ran Chrysler engines among other components (AMC number 4 to the big three of Ford, GM, and Chrysler). That stubby sporty hardtop I reckon was called Javelin - and that sports model an AMX.

In simpler terms:
Ford Motor Company made a Ford Mustang GT,
General Motors Corporation made a Chevrolet Camaro SS,
Chrysler Cars Inc. made a Dodge Challenger R/T,
American Motors Corporation made a Rambler Javelin AMX.

Yes you're right, it is a Javelin. From memory I think they ran a hemi V8.
I think AMC was formed after the demise of the Nash brand.
Nash models were called Ramblers, Ambassadors and the quirky little Metrpolitan.

Personally I thought he was talking about the Blue Viper? But as long as we're on the topic of AMCs .. yep, I saw at least two in those photos. The blue '70 AMX with the scallops and the silver '69 beside it. I didn't see any Javelins in the photos. The Javelin is actually a lengthened version of the AMX (about a foot in the wheelbase). They use AMC-built engines .. in '69/'70 in an AMX would have been either 290V8, 343V8, 390V8 - AMCs largest V8 was the 401 produced in '71. AMC engines (360V8s .. not Mopar engines) were still built in FJ Jeep Wagoneers until their demise under Chrysler in 1989. AMC was the "update" of the Rambler brand in '67 (I think?). Rambler was formed from a fluid metaphosis of the olf Nash brand, along with Jeep, Kaiser, Kelvinator .. etc .. which was eventually sold off to Chrysler who took the Jeep Brand from AMC and disposed of the car devision. AMCs built in Australia (until the late seventies) were always "rebranded" as Ramblers because they were an established brand. Like how Chrysler Australia imported Plymouth Furies post 1964 and rebadged them as the "well known" Dodge Phoenix.

AMC = (official) American Motors Corporation
AMC = (unofficial) All Makes Combined .. due to AMCs use of "standard" parts from other manufacturers; eg. Ford starters, Autolite carbs, distributors .. GM steering columns, ignition systems, PS systems .. Mopar transmissions, etc

I'll shutup now ..

Rod.

They are good qualiyt photos.

I think the 68-70 Javelins were American mtrs neatest looking cars but the 71-74 Javs are still a neat looking car.

Having owned a VH Charger E57 360 V8 I still have a soft spot for Chrysler cars.

Love the rego number on the Challenger "RATRAP", also those AMX's look bloody nice although I wouldn't have the scalloped paint myself. Thanks for sharing the pix.

This van is interesting, someone has put an earlier model front on it as they were only made during the CL model (same as the yellow Drifter ute).

Gee I hope my upcoming All Ford Day can have even half the glitz and spectacle of that Chrysler event. I'd better start buffing my coupe now...

Mmm CL panelvan with sporty VH front clip? An interesting idea - and works well from that angle too, even in the later model orange!

I wasn't sure if he meant AMX or Viper either - and having not seen how the front clip opens on a Viper I wasn't sure if that was legit or a replica - but took a stab.

All of those cars look fantastic. I love the US Chargers, Aussie Chargers, personally I reckon the best Aussie shape of all time would have to go to the 2-door Chrysler-by-Chrysler (LWB Hardtop) I reckon there's one pic of a white one there... Yes even over my own Falcon hardtop.

As for my favourite US-shape, there's so many good ones from all different brands, but the Charger/Coronet and Challenger/Cuda bodies are right up there on my list!

Pity the out of touch with public Chrysler cheifs didn't promote the VH/VJ or CH/CJ 2 doors enough at that time.
I think some body parts would be rare to find nowdays for them. Plus Mitisibushi threw most of the the achives out of Chrysler Australia when they took over the S.A plant
