To get to Eastern Creek Raceway and WSID from my place is about... 5 to 7kms. Takes a few minutes, only hold up being a traffic light or two.

But assuming I wanted or had a car to race, and had to drive, 700km? To race it. I'd do it. Maybe only a few times a year, but worth it IMO. Little road trip holiday fun race thing... lol

Default No Contest from WA!

When you live in Perth and want to see motorsport you need to go for a lo-o-o-ng drive or catch a plane.

I've been to Bathurst 5 times but only driven there from Perth once - that's about 7500 km round trip plus sight-seeing extra (total 9500 - 10000kms). I have friends that do it (drive) nearly every year (and Hey, they are great Ford fans too!).

I drove to 2 Adelaide GP's - thats about 5400km round trip each time.

And I drove to Adelaide's 2000 Le Mans sports car race - best big event I have attended in recent years - none of the hype of the other events now, and reasonably priced as well. When you drive that far, its easy to say "its only 5 hrs extra drive to our friends farm near Port Fairy" (Victoria) and then "its only 3 hrs to Melbourne, we may as well go there too" so it becomes another 8000 km round trip.

I never get tired of driving across the Nullarbor - its a great drive.

In the 1970's my brother pulled his Cooper 'S' behind an AUSTIN 1800 UTE from Perth to Phillip Island to race it there. Thats a long way! And in answer to the next question - NO - the Austin 1800 ute did not make it home again - he ran it out of oil and dumped it somewhere in SA and took the Mini home on a truck.

Cheers.

I drove from NSW to Heathcote to go dragging with the E-series club a few years ago - was a bit apprehensive that something would happen to the car coz it's a damn long walk home.

About 250km to get to Willowbank (at a stab) and roughly the same to Queensland Raceway and Indy.

Not much change out of 200 to get to heathcote for me, and the distance doesnt worry me at all.

Have been to Phillip Island and back for V8's in 1 day and that would be about 750km round trip and quite enjoyed the day

To Willowbank/QR is about 98kms the old Darlington Park was about 60kms each way BUT if they reopen Lakeside it would be about 10km but alas I can not see that happening in the near future if the council have their way : and when I lived in Sydney Oran Park was only 20kms away

For me it's 430k to Eastern Creek,I've been a couple of times since moving out of Sydney. It's 600k to Willowbank and been a coupla times. Its 700k to Bathurst and I go EVERY year, only missed 1 in 21. For a few years I didn't have the time to spend off work and or mates couldn't go so I would leave here on Saturday night around 11pm drive 7hrs to track sleep a few hrs, watch race and as soon as the cars finished I would hitail it back home catching a few ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZs along the way. BIG DAY.

Queensland Raceway from Melbourne will be the longest one for me this year.

Will also be going to Barbagallo to race next year so that will be a decent hike. Luckily the car, parts & tyres are going on a truck and im flying over!

I drove 200km's to Symonds Plains for the V8's. And would probably think about going to the drag track up there IF we got some decent cars there (Funny Cars etc)

Calder is about 15 minutes away and Heathcote is around an hour away. God i love it, going to Heathcote is awesome, just when ya wanna get away from it all and all the bad stuff in life, the drive there helps ya think about it and the drags just drown it out. I LOVE IT!

calder is less than 5km away , but I seem to still drive 200+kms round trip to Heathcote if I want to Race , hope to attempt a wsid or wakefield round trip this year

the time travelled to and from event is never noticed (by me atleast),because you cant wait to get there ,and you cant stop thinking of it on way home.
