Hey i just wanna know ya thoughts on this (also includes a chrome moly roll cage and full cooling system at same quote price)
my current set up is a 351, roller rockers, stage 2 cam, weiand xelerator intake, holley 700dp, mallory elec dist, crane 100ps coil, extractors, yella terra rolla rockers and double valvew springs, C10 gearbox and borgwarner, the reason im spending 19,000 is a bit dumb but ill tell you why: my car has always had flatspots from poor tuning and when i got if fixed it was worse and lost heaps of aceleration, i have never driven it when perfectly tuned carb so i feel i need to get more power by ripping everything down, stroking the fu<k out of it and rteplacin the heads for chi 3v, i got my car dynoed and it had 215rwhp i was a little let down. who can guess how much power my new motor will have??????????????? |

Rough guess dependant on cam size and they type of CHI's used. Around 550hp. Going by how little stall is used. Why do I have a rough idea? I own a 393 with 218cc CHI heads ;) I made 588hp and 500ftlbs of torque. Max hp was @ 7200rpm. Max torque was @ 5400rpm. I honestly don't think the c4 will last long but there is only one way to find out. At the rear wheels I'd expect around 330-350rwkw.
The engine and box are reasonably priced from what I can see. Not sure why you are going 31spline axles etc as it's not required. If you have a 28 spline 9" diff already? It's strong enough. Just get the bearings and ratio changed to suit. I run a 28 spline 4.11 LSD. I launch @ 5400rpm off a transbrake. If you are grouting the block? You'll see increased engine temps over long distances. Why are they throating out for large valves etc? The CHI valve sizes are plenty. Mine are out of the box heads and out of the box manifold. I hope they don't wreck your heads. I know of a few pairs of CHI's that have been destroyed by poor porting etc There might be quite a few things you can use from your current build on the 393. By the way a c10 is a c4 ;) Either way it'll have plenty of power. Be careful and don't kill yourself doing anything silly. [edit]remember to keeps some $ put away for the carb, fuel system ignition system and other accessories that you'll need to run it. Around $5000 as a guestimate should keep it in the black.

Are you sure it's full cooling system and chromoly cage? I'd be asking for it to be written on the quote 1st.

olny a 4 point cage he specilises in em and seen a few he does a good job,
cooling consists of fricken big coolin fans and shroud, the port jobby being done is done at kosteckis which im sure you would know did the chi head desighn planning and his cnc improvements won the engine masters pefmance comp in the states (check the chi website) i dont really want a cam duration of more than 240 degree cuz i dont wanna be pushin the block/ components limits 4000 high stall and 4.11 gears but says 4000 high stall only really stalls to 2500 unless hard launching, as far as i know a c4 is the only box to take all of this punishment, wouldnt mind a toploader but will probally break the car is intended for a 70% street use, and in rocko you will know that rocko foreshore crusing requires ALOT of burnouts and 30% drag |

Con @ PRE engines also had his hand in that pie I'm pretty sure ;) Con's had his hand in the development of most of the CHI development. I honestly can't justify CNC'ing. I know John @ CHI. I've dealt with John for various things over the last 3 years. I won't let anyone but John touch my heads. I also drop into CHI for the social aspects every now and again too. I like to know whats happening incase I can improve my engine.
You won't be disappointed with that engine. Although I got bored of mine pretty quickly. Not enough power for me. I might supercharge my next engine to make it interesting ;) Already planned for an aftermarket block this year.

Yeh baby !!!
The reason you're spending 19 K is not dumb, it's your [B]reason so who gives a toss. I was surprised that your first combination made 215rwhp... it sounds like a fair bit of motor for only that much pwr. Anyway, have fun with your new package and please sacrifice a a couple of Bob Janes finest for us when she's run in. Smoking the bags during overtaking manouvers should be fun......... (on the track of course)

Yes, the castings are definately good enough to use out of the box. For the cam your planning to use, I'd just use them straight out of the box. No deburring etc should be necessary. I had no luck with c4/c10's behind the 351. Would have had no hope behind a 393. Just couldn't get them to hold together. I ended up with a powerglide which I didn't want to do but it's proven reliable. Odd thing is a mate of mine runs a c4/10 and it's faultless. Also built by the same people who built me a few c4/10's. It's got me buggered!?!? I wouldn't worry about it till you cross that bridge.

XD-XF are pretty light. 10 something should be easy enough if you have traction. Getting traction is half the fun.

It seems very well priced I think engine wise .Those prices seem very good indeed .Stone racing must get a desent price to be able to charge you that or they are just good people .Do you know what cam it is they are using .My engine is nearly the same 393 with the CHI 218 3v straight out the box. They needed very very little cleaning up and realy don't need any .
Good luck |
