New ST-Line sees the arrival of a distinctive new model with unique features including sports suspension, individual styling and specialised interior offering wireless smartphone charging

Ford Focus ownership experience is bolstered by Ford’s five-year unlimited kilometre warranty, MapCare updates available on SYNCŪ 3i, Service Price Promise and Low Price Tyre Guarantee offered through Ford dealerships nationally

MELBOURNE, Australia, Aug. 28, 2018 – The all-new Ford Focus – the most accomplished and technically-competent Focus ever – has been developed from the ground up to provide the most confidence-inspiring, intuitive, and rewarding driving and occupant experience for Australian customers.
“The Focus has been one of the world’s best-selling vehicles, and it’s a significant part of Ford’s line-up, having been on sale for almost two decades in Australia,” said Ford Australia and New Zealand CEO, Kay Hart. “We’ve seen Focus set benchmarks in technology, driveability and performance, and this all-new generation is the best combination of Focus character and the latest technology that Australian customers are asking for.”
The all-new Focus features AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) standard across the range, known as Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection technology, the system can detect people in or near the road ahead, or who may cross the vehicle’s path. In addition, Focus goes even further with the system’s capability to detect cyclists as well as function in the dark using light from the headlamps.

Should an accident occur, new Post-Collision Braking technology can help to reduce the impact of a potential secondary collision by automatically applying moderate brake pressure when an initial collision event is detected. Slowing the vehicle can potentially lessen injury to occupants and reduce further damage to the vehicle.

Voice-activated SYNC 3 including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, is also standard on every new Focus, with a full-colour 8.0-inch SYNC 3 touchscreen bringing voice-activated features including the standard built-in sat-nav and full-colour 180-degree reversing camera.

Focus also brings innovations such as under body panels and an active grille shutter, air-curtain technology, as well as air separation features in the rear bumper as part of a cache of design elements that deliver silken aerodynamic efficiency for a 0.27 Cd.

A new-generation, highly efficient 1.5-litre EcoBoost engine and 8-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission is standard on every new Focus. With significant improvements in fuel economy, thanks to advanced materials and weight reduction, the new power-train also ensures drivability with greater power and torque.

It features advanced technology and features including:

- A new combination of port fuel injection and direct fuel injection that helps deliver high power – now 134kW – and responsiveness alongside enhanced fuel-efficiency, with a particular increase in fuel-efficiency under light engine loads
- A low-friction three-cylinder architecture that delivers naturally high torque at low rpm, with 240Nm developed from a low 1600rpm.
- An integrated exhaust manifold that improves fuel-efficiency by helping the engine reach optimal temperatures faster, and delivers torque more rapidly by minimising the distance exhaust gasses travel between the cylinders and turbocharger
- An all-aluminium construction for light-weight, improved dynamics and efficiency

The all-new Ford Focus will be on sale in Australia from December 2018 with a three-model line-up.

Focus Trend: Smarter, safer with more style

This includes commands such as “find me coffee” and “I’m hungry” as well as traffic avoidance thanks to features of the built-in sat-nav. The built-in system ensures that even in areas of weak phone reception, the Focus will enable you to find your way.

Focus Titanium The most advanced model ever offered to Australian customers, Focus Titanium is the model with premium features including the most comprehensive Driver-Assist Technology suite ever offered on a Focus. In addition to Ford’s Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, Focus Titanium brings:

- Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop&Go (new) ACC with Stop & Go, Speed Sign Recognition and Lane-Centring and Evasive Steer Assist helps the vehicle maintain a comfortable driving distance from vehicles ahead; helps reduce stress during long road trips by helping keep the vehicle centred in its lane. Respectively, these two features are designed to provide continuous hands-on steering support to guide the vehicle and keep it centred in the lane and gives an appropriate level of steering torque to help the driver to help avoid a collision. That is, it can make the steering lighter if the customer steers too slowly or makes the steering heavier if the customer steers too aggressively.
- The new Stop & Go feature is designed to enable the ACC system to bring the vehicle to a complete halt in stop-start traffic, and automatically pull away if the stopping duration is less than three seconds. For stopping durations greater than three seconds, the driver can push a steering wheel button or gently apply the accelerator pull away.
- Evasive Steering Assist, designed to operate at city and motorway speeds, uses radar and a camera to detect slower-moving and stationary vehicles ahead and can provide steering support to enable drivers to manoeuvre around a vehicle if a collision is imminent.
- Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Alert and Active Braking, is designed to warn drivers reversing out of a parking space of vehicles that may soon be crossing behind them and can now for the first time apply the brakes to avoid or mitigate the effects of collisions if drivers do not respond to warnings.
- Optional Active Park Assist 2 is an extension of Active Park Assist, supporting the driver in both parallel in and parallel out parking spaces, as well as parking manoeuvres in tight, regular and large spaces. Upon the driver’s request, the system conducts all necessary steps of the parking manoeuvre. Further technology includes an optional Head-up Display (HUD), which presents key data like the speedometer, higher into the eye line of the driver.

Standard on Titanium and included as part of the ST-Line Design Pack, the all-new Adaptive LED lighting package enhances driver vision with a broader beam for more light on the road ahead.

Features include automatic levelling and automatic high-beam control. Focus firsts include a sequential turn signal progression for the LED indicators, as well as Static Bending Light from the multifunctional projector headlights, which are also capable of:
Glare-free high beam deployment: combined with automatic high-beam control, allows up to 50-per cent more use of high-beam for enhanced visibility Camera-based dynamic bending: camera control enables the swivel of the light beam into the curve before the vehicle reaches it Speed sensitive light modes Sign-based light modes
The LED package draws less energy than the previous Focus Titanium’s Bi-Xenon headlights, and are designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle and eliminate the inconvenience and cost of bulb replacements for worry-free motoring.
Owners of the all-new Ford Focus will enjoy the benefits of a full five-year unlimited kilometre warranty. Eligible customers can also access Service Price Promise, loan car and tyre-price guarantee programs at Ford’s participating dealership locations.

I love the look and the tech, but the lack of a manual gearbox would be a deal breaker for me. If Ford had made a manual gearbox available on the ST Line or Titanium, I would've been very interested.

It gives lots of details about the engine but not about the transmission. 8 speed auto is all they say. Is it the dreaded automated manual, a CVT or is it (hopefully) a torque convertor box?

It has been a couple days since since watching the vid, but I am pretty sure he mentions tq convertor.

The vid is long, the presenter has a fairly think German accent and the car he tests is a 6 speed manual.

Fairly interesting though.

It's a conventional auto.

So in summary

Ford Fiesta-deleted
Ford Focus sedan-deleted
Ford Focus diesel-deleted
Any Ford Focus with a manual -deleted

A 3 cylinder 8 speed auto.
Without a manual how do I drive it on a country road where I want to be up in the rev range prior to passing. Floppy paddles eh.

Disappointed. Ford once built 4 cylinder manual gearbox drivers cars for drivers.

No longer.

I must have missed the part where manual wasn't available for our market. That's pretty sh!t if so!

The pictures of the blue car appear to be the same body as the 2013-18 Focus we have in Canada. Interior looks different.
That style is a bunch better than the 2000 Focus we had before it, even with the chattering 6 speed Dual Clutch.

Focus production line. You can see where the quality control is down to human rather than machine (surprisingly, the dash install is by robot).

The more I drive my Ford Focus Active (MY20.25) the level of refinement FoMoCo has achieved is a credit the advancement in robotics. The Saarlouis plant in Germany are rightly proud of there reputation in high build quality. The marketing and dealer network in Australia did a poor job in profiling the new SA range when introduced in 2019. Will Ford re-launch the Focus range with the 1 litre PHEV engine?
