Hi from my freezing home.
My ducted gas heat heater has been working fine up until yesterday I went to investigate before calling someone who will come and charge me a fortune. What I found was it all works as it should if the steel cover over the fan box is removed but once I put it back on while running there is a lot of suction and the fan stops blowing? What could cause this or should I listen to the wife and call someone? Thanks Tregs

Could be a capacitor on a the fan motor or the motor itself . Sounds like if you don't relieve the pressure it stalls . The motor may have a internal overload as well ? All I can think of . I am no expert by the way !

My advice is to listen to the wife and call in someone who knows what they are talking about.
There are so many things that can go wrong with a gas system, so don't muck around with it. Paying to get it fixed correctly is cheaper than potentially harming yourself and your loved ones.

Have you tried cleaning/removing the inside return air filter? It may be clogged up.

Sounds like you have a blocked air filter in the return air grille.
When was the last time you took it out and vacuumed or washed it? It should be done at least every couple of months, especially in winter. |

There is SO MANY things that can be at fault - simple or complex.
As previously said by a member, first check your return air filter. You have been doing this regularly before - right ? As a retired sparky & a/c tech, it amazed me amount of times filters were blocked solid - owners said " I didn't know that was there or had to be cleaned " Otherwise there are many controls & safety devices which you cannot touch or adjust by law so get a professional in... Example : one of the potential faults is the airflow safety switch or oxygen depletion safety, which prevents the gas ignition when low air flow (or no minimum outside air is present) this may be doing it's job if your filters need cleaning or a damper is closed or other failure. With you opening the cover you are allowing air to bypass air flow switch etc, etc. But for safety sake if filter cleaning doesn't fix call in a pro to check whole system out - especially if you bought the place after it was fitted

My only advice would be to make sure nobody from Mannix or Climat enter your home and mess with your heating.
Never dealt with a more hopeless bunch. By the time they got my system installed and running correctly, winter was almost over. |

Thanks for all the replies I ended up calling someone out to have a look. The problem is was the inlet duct had come lose and every time it tried to suck air it would suck itself closed. I'm kicking myself for not checking or thinking about checking that. But in the end I'm relieved that it was an easy fix all up he was here for 45 minutes.

Any idea where I can buy the capacitors needed for a split system? I see e online for $8 and they look the same as the ones I get charged hundreds for by aircon techs.
