Have you ever had a chat to someone online and decided to meet up?
I don't mean a date or anything like that, just meeting up with others who share the same interests that you share. Well today I met up with 4VXC He was travelling with a few other biker mates touring around Tumut and the wonderful scenery it offers in this neck of the woods. He called in for a cuppa. I wasn't prepared for what I wuz about to endure. **** he was an UGLY BASTARD! We did have a lot in common though (modesty prevents me from declaring that I am very good lookin') and shared similar interests in Fords. And I thoroughly enjoyed his visit. So just a warning out there to youse blokes - be careful of ugly members. |

Meeting forum members usually results in me spending far more money than I planned to.... but occasionally the reverse happens.

No need to insult 4VXC, you should be ashamed of yourself

The joys of sarcasm, and the typed word. VERY difficult to tell whether a post is a personal insult or a light hearted jibe.
Personally speaking, I would like to believe the latter in this case. Good to hear that you have met with members here that share the same passion, and enjoy the same past times. It is not that suprising though - enjoying our Australian Fords are why we are all here after all. |

nothing like meeting folks "in the flesh"......forums are great, but limited, sharing a drink with a new buddy is WAYYY better.
well done.......oh! I took the jibe as it was placed, in good humour.

Your context and intent was pretty clear to me Cav couldn't help but snigger as I read it ;) Some damn fine people on forums too, just gotta pick and choose carefully (maybe check their Tinder profile first that's always honest cough)

I took it as nothing more than a bit of fun. Sarcasm goes right over some ppls heads. Good thing is he will get right of reply when he finally gets to see this.

I have hosted a few AFF members at my home in their travels or other circumstance.
Yes, it could be a disaster meeting someone you've never met before as you don't know them, likewise they don't know me or what to expect what I'm like. Works both ways. I've had no problem whatsoever with hosting Madaya (Gaz) Vincenzo (Vinny) or Hawkgirl (Kath) We all came from different walks of life, but I've found the above to be genuine and real people and have formed a sense of mateship with them since. Of course before I invited them to mine I didn't blankly say "rock on up", I did sus out their posts (as I'm sure they did mine) to gauge them first before the invite - I hate using the term "judge". I don't regret inviting the above to my humble home and giving my hospitality. It enriched me. Besides if having an AFF guest in my home turned to crap, I'd demand that they leave, just like anyone else. Cheers!

I've met a bunch of forum people from here - the big Bathurst cruise in 2005, smaller BBQ meets in Penrith and Camden?
I've also met members from another forum I frequent, over in Europe. A bunch of Finns in Helsinki in 2014, and a Slovenian who drove to Vienna to meet me. Then last year I flew back to Helsinki to join a RoadTrip for 2 weeks through Finland and Norway, with 14 other forum members - having only met 3 of them previously - with our final destination being the massive forum meet-weekend camping near the Nurburgring. I think final count on the attendance there was 51... I'm already planning on doing it again this year, as I came away with a bunch of lifelong friends, and had an amazing time. For the most part everyone I've met through both forums have been great. Even those that you may not get along with online can surprise you, and be wonderful in person.

This is why we never call in when passing through or stopping at Tumut.

Bro, I remember reading the Supershifty-Vincenzo drive to Darwin thread (still a classic btw) and it reminded me of my old fave, 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas', the book, not the movie = lol. And just like you Dave, if I'm in a position to put my hand up to host a fellow AFF mate, on their travels in my neck of the woods. give me a yell.
