Seriously though, that;s what happens when your labour is so freely available and so cheap. There is no incentive to invest in technology that can do the job for you when you can get a human to do it for much, much cheaper.

As Damo said, these third world countries will change, and change for the better. No different to where the current first world countries (like Aus) came from.

What worries me for the future, is once these countries progress and their labour prices rise (which they will do), where is the manufacturing going to move to? I guess there will always be some country that will be the cheapest.

The thing you need to remember is that there is a revolt if tech is involved....as it removes jobs.

Just remember that casuals over there work for about 2 hours and then are picked for the day to get payed. There is still plenty of poor people who are trying to survive.

Very true. But that is no different to England during the industrial revolution or even our own country. It will change, especially as people discover opportunity and then become more affluent as a result. It will take time though....

Yeah but the conditions you worked in were because of unions and millions of abused slaves workers.
I bet you went home at night, slept in your bed and schooled your children in something other than your profession. Or did you work a 12 hour day, sleep in company accommodation after paying rent to the company, buy company bread from the company shop, pay the company to sharpen your tools and have your sons take your shift when you died on the job. While your wives and daughters worked fro free in the company washrooms, bakeries and menial job rooms? for just enough money to not be able to change your lot in life.
Have a little look at pre-unionised workplaces. Not the luxurious workplaces we have today and the last 30-40 years.

I think the problem with the Unions is they started getting to greedy. A shame really after all that they fought for but in saying that I don't think we should can the unions all together.. we made need them again the way were going

Its an agreeathon here! You are also right, but your comparison of a workplace being better without a union, in context of this thread was remiss.
You were slightly better off sans union workplace, compared to had there never been unions. You had a much better staring point from which to move forward, rather than starting from scratch.

Today's unions probably wield too much power, especially if their actions are not for the betterment of their members but their political or self interest. It's not their power in the workplace I disagree with but that in the general society.
But never having been covered by a union I don't know what they offer the 'joe punter' perhaps they are in just the right position. Its not for me to say and I will sit back and watch the union fight the man! and vice versa.
