Default Sriracha aka Rooster Sauce

SRIRACHA (si-ra-cha)
Hot Chili Sauce
Rooster Sauce

Whatever you call it, it's a slightly tangy hot sauce with flavor, like lightly sweet, lightly garlicy, balanced HOT not just explosive mind blowing spicy hot.

You can put it on eggs, pizza, tacos, rice, meat, chicken, sushi, make sauce, dips, dressings, top popcorn, potato chips or even make crazy Sriracha ice cream. So basically, Sriracha goes with pretty much everything.

Is this just as popular in AU as it is in the States? It's everywhere here and it's become an everyday condiment like ketchup. When their factory in LA was closed down for environmental and health reasons, Sriracha flew off of shelves and there was a sudden shortage. The factory upgraded their air filtration system and all has been good for a while now and it's available everywhere.

Haven't seen that one here Nicky.

I do like hot sauces for cooking and flavouring.

Costco sells Nando's hot peri-peri over here which I mainly use in cooking, although it's a sauce - I use it sparingly to sauce on meats straight out of the bottle, can be a bit like Tabasco if you use too much!

Always up for trying new things though. Shall keep my eye out for it.

Cheers!

Yeah, I have it and know a few other local fans. Can buy it from a site called grocery run who stock a few different US foods.

SRIRACHA is commonplace in Australia.
Pretty sure it is the Sauce served as "chilli sauce" in Yum Cha restaurants.
But easy to buy here - definitely in any Asian grocer, most Coles/Woolworths and COSTCO.
Periperi sauce has a different flavour, and not quite as hot (usually)
My current favourites are "fiery frillneck" (hot and smokey) and "scorpian strike" (pretty darned hot) from http://thechillifactory.com/

I've been wondering what the hell that is. A bunch of people on another forum I visit rave about it, but as I'm the only one in my family that likes flavour in my meals, I don't really have an opportunity to experiment.
I'm sure I'll be exposed to it on my next overseas holiday.

I recently bought my first bottle, but I haven't opened it yet. I've had it before, though. I don't know that I'd describe it as "slightly tangy"--it's pretty powerful stuff.

Sriracha is good stuff, my father in law is right into it. Sister in law calls it the "cock sauce"

Definitely hit up an Asian market or check the Asian section in the supermarket that you shop at. It's sort of like Tabasco but it has more depth of flavor to it. I have a feeling you'll like it. It's not just a spicy chili pepper sauce. Let me know when you find it and try it ok?

Just some trivia - Yum Cha is the word for Dim Sum in Japanese.

I'll keep an eye out for Periperi sauce but idk about the Fiery Frillneck of Scorpian Strike - sounds too potent for me.

Or try it when you eat at an Asian restaurant, or go shop at an Asian market. I'm sure you can find it at those places. It really does have a nice flavor to it because it's more than "just" a hot sauce like Tabasco. Lmk how you like it when you try it ok?

Open it, open it! Some hot salsas are spicer than Sriracha, I think. I sometimes put a drop or 2 on scrambled eggs, it's pretty good!

I had a habanero sauce called bezerker. It comes in varying strength but it hard to determine between them, just so damn hot. Just one drop is enough to blow your head off, and a few drops in a burger is nice if you like your mouth to burn.

Chinese grocery stores sell it here, I bought a box of twelve small bottles 17oz/482g bottles a few months back for around $50 and am slowly working my way through them. Love it, hot with flavour, unlike the sauces which are so damn hot all you get is heat.

Haha, I would have thought, "wow, he must REALLY love Sriracha!"
I'd be tempted to ask if the whole case was for you.

At least with a case of it you won't need to worry about running out or the Huy Fong factory closing down again and stopping production.

I live in a rural area about 90km NNE of Melbourne and no-one stocks Sriracha around here. It is available from somewhere however as a place I go to for breakfast on weekends with my partner has it (which is where I got the taste for it on scrambled eggs)...just haven't found it yet (and I'm thinking it may be a wholesaler).

However I work in Melbourne CBD...which has a Chinatown. I went for a walk, first Chinese grocery store I came to had it in stock. So rather than have to revisit every month or so, I now have a year's worth

It's all good, my partner doesn't like spicy food and she sometimes cooks stuff that I sometimes feel is a bit...bland.

when americans find something they like, they tell everyone.

to the point where every other manufacturer of similar products are ignored.

ive had it and think its pretty soft compared to some brands from malaysia you buy in asian food shops here.

linghams, king etc..

When I want to have a thick, slow cooked rib eye, I use Nandos perri perri hot marinade on it. Marinade it for 24 hrs in the fridge...yum!

Sriracha perpetuates the American hegemony of condiments.

We also like ketchup. On everything! It's great mixed with Sriracha.
