Howdy fellas, new guy Al here again. Looking at replacing the points/condenser in the dizzy on my 1600. Some questions:
Can anyone identify the type of dizzy from the attached photos or do I need to pull it out to confirm? Are the Accuspark conversion kits any good or are there better options out there? In the long run are the conversion kits as effective/reliable as changing out the dizzy for full electronic versions? Thanks in advance. |

Hi. Lucas dizzy, bosch points number is GL19(v), cant remember the lucas or repco number. Used in most lucas dizzys from the early 60s to the mid 70s. Cheers MD

a good auto electrician should have the conversion dissy or kit

I used the Accuspark conversion kit for 1600 escort and it worked well - make sure you buy the right one for the distributor you have though! I also bought and used an Accuspark electric distributor for a moke I had which came with a new coil too.
Your dizzy is probably worn so I'd say spend a little extra and upgrade the lot |

It was a while ago but I reckon it was less than $150 for the distributor and coil!

Check this out, it's not that expensive and is 1000% better than a dizzy. Have a good look through the pages and user areas. I've had one on my V8 Clevo for 4 years and haven't missed a beat, makes tunning a breeze and performance is maximised. |

Thanks for the ideas fellas. 37clevo thanks for the suggestions but I think all that gear is a bit radical (especially for technologically-challenged me). I really just wanted to get rid of the points and condenser due to access dramas, and had read some good things here and on other sites about the Accuspark setup. Cheers

I replaced the whole dizzy with an Accuspark unit from the UK & am very happy with it. As someone else has stated, make sure you have the correct coil. I also ordered mine with the side entry leads cap & if I did it again, I would keep to the top entry as per standard. Due to all the hoses & leads it becomes a bit of a nightmare on my auto Capri.
