Near new medium/large car, what are my options?

Looking at buying a near new family car, but I'm not sure which cars are any good.
I have been looking at the MC Mondeo diesels, but what else should I consider.

No more than $25,000 drive away.
No more than 60,000km.
No more than 4 year old.

Hmm a Mondeo a "large car"; how times change; it used to be that Fairlanes and LTDs were large and Falcon medium sized making the Mondeo a compact or mid sized at most.

Value for money the Mondeo is hard to beat and the EcoBoost is very good too. But we have the same transmission/engine combo in the Kuga (which is heavier) and that is fantastic too.

We had an MA Mondeo for 5 years and 150000kms of trouble free motoring. One of the best cars we have owned.

Are you looking at hatch or wagon?

You can near get a Diesel Territory for that price.

Mondeo Ecoboost is a bloody good car too.
I got out of an FG XR6 into one and I wish I did it much sooner.
Bought from Brisbane Motor Auctions in July-Dec 2012 Zetec,30000kms with 10 months rego and RWC and I paid $15000.
If it's big enough for you,you'd be mad not to consider one.

What sort of fuel economy have you been getting, i was considering the ecoboost.

Fuel economy is a major factor. I don't really care about features. Not fussed if its a sedan or a wagon.

Really not interested in SUV's, but I would get a 4x2 ranger twin cab but they're out of my price range.

Our EcoBoost Titanium sits at about 9.5L per 100km, 90% round town driving.

Honestly, the EcoBoost is the way to go. Far superior refinement than the diesel but it still posses the diesels drivability. Max torque on song very low in the rev range and stays at its peak up to about 5000rpm, it pulls like a train with no let up right up to a full throttle up change. Ours is a Hatch/Sedan and boot is massively versatile. Well made and very underrated car.

This was the old USA way of looking at car sizes. But nowadays what was a "medium" car is now a large car.

Living in Europe a couple of years ago, every time I saw a Mondeo I thought I was seeing a Falcon - what with the "global" styling and the size!

Much European car design generally is very good at producing maximum internal space relative to the outside dimensions, compared to Asian-originated designs. So don't be deceived by outside dimensions. Always check out internal dimensions.

For Toyota, which is coy about their inside dimensions (no prizes for guessing why), you can usually get the information via their USA sites - you just have to convert inches to metric. Then you find out the truth

There is so much stigma attached to a car being categorised as a "Large" car that the manufactures are ridiculous with the way they call cars "Medium".

There is no way in hell you can call a Camry a "Medium" car when you see how large they actually are. Same gos for the Altima, Mazda 6, Accord, Mondeo ect. Then you have Toyota call a Camry "medium" and Aurion "large" when they are the exact same body.
