It all works on the cubic space of the package.
I once boxed up an ED XR6 front spoiler lip in a box packed with loose paper and it cost a fortune due to the size of the box. There was very little weight in it. If your package takes up a lot of room, then that means they can't have as many paying customers for the load, so you wear the cost. The smaller the box, the cheaper it is. Ed

You'll probably also find that the likes of Toll, Startrack etc won't accept items from individuals unless you have an account there.
You may have to ask someone like Pack & Send. They'll probably tell you the best way to package it or do it for you.
