Anyone know what this is? Saw this on Fitzroy St. but as I was driving I didn't have time to stop - just long enough to pull out the camera and take a shot. It looks American... any ideas? And why does the roof look like it's made out of fabric?

It's a Cadillac CTS and they have a vinyl roof option in the States.

Sigma platform was originally a Holden Commodore design started in the late 1990s and well,
taken over and improved by Cadillac.. |

There are a few RHD Cadillacs getting around because GM was VERY close to selling the brand here in Australia before the GFC.

So the GFC wasn't all bad news, then.

Don't laugh too much, the CTS-V for a while was the fastest four door production car around the Nurburgring, might still have the record actually.
Fairly sure the Panamara Turbo broke the record though.

You can see the similarities between the two number plates
For such dodgy taste in cars he has one of the nicest houses I have seen ... ever.... he also has an el camino ute and other much nicer cars |

The 70's just called, they want their vinyl roof back.
Those shocking things should have stayed in the 70's, can't believe they still offer them. |

57 Chevy front, 59 Chevy rear and the roof looks like it came from a Corvette?

Yep, and as far as I'm concerned, I hate them, had one as a rental two weeks ago, the layout of the interior just did not do it for me.
The power window switchs are down low on the drivers door panel and very awark to reach, as as for the hand brake, well foot brake as you use your foot to put it on, and then to release it, pull a lever. Unfortunatlly the lever is not far from the bonnet release lever, twice I popped the hood instead of releasing the park brake, first time I did it, though I had not released the brake so did it again, unknowing that I had also popped the hood, next thing I'm flying down the interstate and notice that the bonnet is bouncing up and down.

Cadillac.
That other car I have seen advertised as a kit in the USA, something called a "789" or something...'57 front, '59 rear, not sure which bit is the "8". In fact, a quick Google search showed it... http://www.kitcarconnection.com/maga...er-own_19.html http://www.flickr.com/photos/45904802@N08/6348647706/ It's built on a Corvette chassis...the newer Corvettes (such as is underneath the Holden show car "EFIJY") lend themselves to this very well as the whole chassis, drivetrain, and suspension is great to just hang any old body off easily. |
