There was an add on my local radio station a few minutes ago for a couple of the mines in the Hunter Valley for experienced and inexperienced people to join them, can't remember the name but it started with E and said to go through the careers section for details,

pick a mining core/test drilling company, there are hundreds of them.
they allways need labourers, cooks, offsiders. "non skilled" thou unrelated trade can benifet.

send emails persistandtly "be annoying" remember they dont read all emails they flush. so persistance pays.

PS: make shure you have a green slip (OH&S)

I work for a mine that does fairly regulary employ greenys. I started off belt splicing which is fairly easy to get into then move to installing fire suppression systems on mining machinery and have been an operator for the past three years. It is hard to get in sometimes and get the job you want but if you take what you can get with contractors you normaly get your foot in the door and open up a lot of opertunitys. Just keep trying. Where abouts are you?

Wow so many questions.....

All I can say is to send a resume and any questions you might have to:
[email protected]
If you want to ring and speak to someone: 08 8671 1353

Basically we are a contractor that has all trades and we work for the Olympic Dam mine site as well as the surrounding areas. We are flat out at the moment so you never know your luck even as a TA I can't guarantee anything as it isn't up to me but it's worth a shot.

Also there are a few labour hire mobs here that are always on the lookout for people give this one a call.

Skilled Roxby Downs
08 8671 2566

Another one:

Workpac Roxby Downs
08 8671 4622

Good Luck!!

Just thought of something else that is pretty important.......

If you are into the drug scene don't bother as everything up here is random fitness for work policy and you only have to get done once and you are out of here.........

As much as there is a shortage in workers for mines around the country, there is a reason they ask for experience over no experience. If you stuff up, you kill people.

You definitely need to be persistent and get your foot in the door, but importantly don't be a d*ckhead. If you can't work within a set of rules then its not for you.

Its funny you say that because i lost a forklift job that had all the OH&S rules drilled into us for two days. Then six weeks latter we had a new Labourer that was useless and kept wanting to drive the Forklift (easier than his job) now he was a good driver but I asked him if he had a licence which he did not, so from then on as per OH&S rules i removed the key "when an unlicenced driver could access it" i.e this labourer.
Anyhow he chucked a wobbly, abused people in the office and stormed out -we ended up finishing quicker with out him.
Next day get a call from the labour hire company (scum- plh Cleveland) didn't want me working there as i had a fight with the labourer all i did was not leave the key and refuse to give it to him- about 3 words "your not licenced"
Went and talked to the owner of PLH Cleveland (prisision labour hire) and explain what happened to no avail.

The local electrical wholesaler is looking for a store person now too.

Auslec Roxby : 08 86713111

Doubt it would be a huge wage but it's full time work.
