I bet the policeman was straight on the phone bragging to his mates that he just impounded Lewis Hamiltons car.

What a great attitude being displayed.... So what if its Hamiltons car?

He got caught by the cops. Learn to deal with it....

Good move on the cops part. It will highlight how draconian the laws are there in VIC. I wonder how bad it would have been if Lewis was doing 3km/h over the speed limit. The cop probably doesn't like those laws himself and is doing his best to expose them to the review of the rest of the world.

The English McLaren driver did a burnout and a fishtail in a 2010 silver Mercedes along Lakeside Drive in front of a Victoria Police divisional van, that pulled him over.

He will be charged on summons with improper use of a vehicle. The sports car was towed to a police yard in Raglan St in Preston, where it will be held for 48 hours under anti-hoon laws.

The divisional van saw Hamilton turn into the street with smoking wheels and pulled him over.

Senior Constable Scott Woodford said the 2008 world champion stopped right away and was "extremely co-operative".

“It would have been fair to say he was fairly disappointed with the incident," he said.

Hamilton was interviewed for around half an hour in the car, and would have been routinely breath-tested.

Hamilton, who was visibly upset, had his car towed away and impounded and will also receive a fine.

It is understood he told policemen at the scene that he was worried this would dent his reputation.

The Herald Sun understands that he was not taken back the police station for questioning.

The incident happened at around 9.15pm tonight.

In 2007, Hamilton was banned from driving in France after being clocked driving at 123mp/h (around 200km/h).

He was given an on-the-fine and his sports car was impounded by French police.

I say good on them. Does this moron think he's exempt from the road rules because he is a formula 1 driver? He deserves the same treatment as everyone else and that's exactly what he received, case closed.

there is a world of difference between Lewis Hamilton and your average meathead in Commodore though.
Not saying it was a good move but at the end of theday, a higly skilled and trained driver letting off a skid isnt going to kill anyone is it.

Wonder how long it'll take Jeremy to rip Australia to shreds you mean, lol. He's a F1 world champ FFS, the charge of being "out of control" is ridiculous. Improper use yes but out of control? :
All a lawyer would have to do is show the judge Hamiltons TG lap in the reasonably priced car in the wet to laugh the "out of control" charge out of court.

The improper use and impoundment charge shows the over zealous stupidity of the law in this case but the "out of control" charge shows the over zealous stupidity of the cop IMO.

Ok fair enough, yes wrong thing to do, he broke the law and needs to cop it on the chin, after all can you imagine the uproar if he was let off....

I nearly wet my pants with the "out of control" bit tho....

Sorry Lewis but when Rome and all that, at least if you don't get a trophy you will have a bit of paper for your cabinet....

So,first France now Australia seems that he is a serial hoon. Well Lewis mate your in Oz now and we'll teach ya good and proper driving.

Trust the media to beat it up but you never know it may have no effect on our road rules whatsoever. So if they take his licence off him before the race does that mean he cant drive in the race??

And yes I'm being a bit sarc'y but the licence/race bit could be interesting afterall it is a street circuit.
