That's because Australia's censorship regulations are an absolute joke. It's sad that we don't get to see good adverts anymore because someone gets offended and complains wether it be because of "hooning" or "dangerous driving" or "Encouraging inappropriate driving" (refering to the old BA XR commercial) or offensive (people complained about the old BF Falcon ute ad where it had 'now entering beerville' and Police now targeting metro's)

I feel that if this sort of ad were shown some drivers may wake up tothemselves, but hey that's just me.

People complained about the commercial with the two children clad in nothing but nappies driving some SUV, claiming that "children of a similar age may try to replicate the situation."

How stupid can you be? Be responsible, and hide your keys/put them where your children can't get to them, and lock the door to your room!

People complain because they can.

I reckon the link you posted had shocking examples, showing people in absolute pain. TAC commercials just don't do anything anymore. It's ho-hum.

apart from the australian segment at the end that isnt so confronting, and perhaps the ghost part too. the whole thing should be on TV.

unfortunately some tools beyond help would mock the ad, learn nothing and probably find themselves in one of those situations before long anyway.

that needs to be the opening vid when giving lectures at schools. before the guy even talks to them. im sure you'd have their attention when they saw that.

they would never show it here tho. it shows that not just speeding can kill people. dangerous driving, being silly, stupid things can kill

The ridiculously overbearing cheesy pop ballad destroyed the effect that clip was going for. For the best shock value the clips only need the sounds of what actually occurs, adds to the realism and impact.

Very well done clips though, they bring together realistic and common situations where things can go seriously wrong.

EDIT: Ok the ghost one and couple pinned together one came off as a bit too much (not as in confronting).

The 2nd & 3rd clips are old NZ ads.

The transit van one was good to.

I don't know, depends on the intended audience. Thinking of a high school situation I think that just the actual sounds might turn the students off as being too full on, or maybe a bit boring, but having the song playing might draw them in a bit. What would be good is having the song, but where there is a big impact having the sound of that overlayed to highlight the impact, or muting the song for that second.

I haven't seen this before. It is very sobering, especially after a fatal accident on a road on the weekend that I passed through no more than 15 mins before, and which I travelled about 20 times in the last week (Woronora bridge approach).

Take care on the roads this Christmas and have a safe (and merry) one.

I think having the soundtrack works better - the underlying tone/lyrics of the song play consistently to the visuals.

Plus, think of the memory association the viewer has the next time they hear the song being played - it'll remind them of the clip. To me that resonates better than just using the real sounds.

Its quite a comfronting vid for sure, definatly highlights how something that may seem like a smaller danger can often end up horrific.

trouble is the country is full of do gooders . The ad is really powerful and worked because had me thinking about it when i was showing off the ute to a mate today.
The only let down is the aussie ad that comes last i think. You know the one about the little johnsons.

The problem is that kind of advertising will only sink into and impact the people who probably least need it: i.e people who probably already drive sensibly and safely....
People who think "it won't happen to me" or are "expert drivers" won't see it as relevant, they'll block it out or just dismiss it....
Or they just won't see it from the maccas car park, or while practicing their driving on the XBox....

Why not? There was a Vic Roads ad with a girl on a bike being hit by a guy doing 65 in a 60 zone, and that was in a similar vein to those ads. Perhaps not as graphic as the teenage couple being crunched by the rolling car, but the message is the same.

Screw all this shouldn't be shown nonsense. People should just cut the crap about "too graphic". What would people prefer? Watch it on TV and be a bit upset - upset enough to modify behaviour, or not see it on tv and live it for real? What is worse? I know I am largely preaching the converted here, but this is not the only spot I get on my soapbox either.

I suppose I am a bit biased as the lives of my wife and I will be forever affected by the effects of road trauma. That trauma did drastically change my driving to the point of my near pedantisism about safe driving now (while continuing to be an enthusiast all the same - the two are NOT mutually exclusive, despite what some think).

But seeing this when I was a new driver would have had a big impact. But it is exactly like 4V says, there are some people who will never take notice. However those of us (hopefully the majority) who generally have some concept of their own and others' mortality who can get a bit carried away every now and again (rarely, but sometimes guilty here myself) will take notice.

These type of ad's would work best during a theory class for teens getting their license. They may be confronting, but so are the realties of life and road trauma.
Those that complain about these ad's, are in fact doing more harm by restricting the awareness that these ad's bring.

We have MA15+ movies with shootouts and blood going all over the place and people "dying", then at 12AM all those stupid porn ads come on with skimpy dressed women dancing and Paris Hilton giving herself some with her hand but nooo we can't have TV ads with any 'violence' at all. Niggah please.

Wow. That kind of footage really shows how vulnerable we
all are. I regularly drive long distance's for work and see many
accidents. The most recent i had to pull over and re-compose
myself before i continued on.

Please be careful out there, something like this could easily
happen to anyone in the blink of an eye.

I have never been a "hoon" for choice of words,
but i have certainly changed my driving style the older
i get.
The only time i drive i have work mates or Family in my car so
not only do i have to drive to save myself,
i must, and do, drive to save other's.

There are so many driver's out there who should not
have a licence. Most probably don't anyway.

That should definately be shown on prime time telly. But, as others have said, cut the ghost bit (Ifound it a bit cheesy) and the last aussie one with the pinky finger bit. That bit made me chuckle. Sorta lessens the severity of the other stuff

Seen a simaliar vid first day at TAFE as a first year but was about twenty years old back in 96 and as a young 16 year old it really makes you think 12 years on i can still remember the impact off the video i think a vieo like this should be part off the licence test and have a questionare with it cause it really makes you think about the consqunces off your actions as a driver
