Wagons are back in fashion and what better than a nice FG wagon, imagine it with turbo and 6 speed auto. If only Ford OZ could find funds to build one...

looks pretty good but the rear end needs re-moddling.. looks like a mini suv or something along the lines of those Mercede's 4WD/People Mover/Wagon.
definately be glad to see some new Ford performace wagons though

I quite like that, as long as it had reasonable space in the rear as opposed to the opposition, I'd consider buying one.

Bit too "mazda 3 hatch" ish for me....
The Turbo Terri makes a "sports" falcon wagon a very difficult business case to justify... Also in light of the lack of incremental business that the Holden hatch has created would further scare Ford from such a project id say....

I like it. I do like the Holden sportswagon, but this would get me handing over cash before the Holden.(If they made them)

That concept looks too much like a VE with a Falcon front tacked on, with Falcon rear lights too.
I don't think it's worth the investment, considering Falcon already has a DECENT family car in the Territory.

So we're agreed, XR8 Terry rather than Falcon Sportswagon

The thing about the holden hatch is it hasnt created any incremental business for holden, the total sales for commodore have remained about the same, all the wagon has done is shift sales from the sedan to the wagon, it hasnt given them incremental business. Holden needed to try something though to combat the turbo terri.
That being the case its hard to justify the R+D to give zero increase in total sales. The R+D money Ford would need to spend would be far better served on a new Terri.

as a long time wagon buyer/owner, i fail to see the point in these 'sportwagon' type things. apart from the fact that holden found a way to make the ve look even worse, i'd be surprised if it actually fitted any more in it than a sedan.
at the moment i have a ba futura wagon and a bfmk2 egas wagon. even with the spare wheel in the cargo area the load space is still big enough for pram, stroller, shopping, luggage etc. a wagon should be a wagon. a vehicle for those who need more room than a sedan but don't want a 4wd/suv type vehicle. obviously this is a diminishing market but the current falcon wagon (bfmk3) does everything it needs to. like 4vman says, ford would find it hard to justify the cost of upgrading the wagon, given it mainly goes to reps and taxi's, who are not fussed what they drive a lot of the time. |

I think ford should employ me to help them get a sportswagon made. For a fee of course. First thing would be a 4.0 six with a supercharger under the hood. Even a turbo would not be bad...
The body for starters would need discarding of those ugly lifeless looking bonnets but at least an addition of an agressive looking bonnet.Make the cars look like theyre intended for hard core enthusiasts . The back boot looks like a budget cutting exercise as it looks far too small. I hope they read my posts on the lack of security and fixed those issues with their ridiculous door locking assemblies from the past. Is this the best ford has to offer?

I'd like to see it in another colour. If anything, I'd like to see those tail-lights on the FG utility.

Looks more like an updated Terry! Put some bigger wheels on it and a bit of a lift and I rekon it wont to far off! It still is a bit of a chuckle at FORD HQ on how many wagons they are actually still selling.

Looks good to me, would like to see a CG work up using those bits to make a 3 door 4 seat hatch.
Mate has a SS Sportswagon with TRTL plates, it's his nickname but does suit the car too. Not bad though and seeing several around now. |

I like that wagon.
If Ford were to make that, I would have one in the driveway in a heartbeat. I like the idea of an XR Wagon. Just a crying shame it's not real! Pay attention Ford, some of us do actually like Sporty wagons.

For some reason it reminds me a lot of what a 5 door Volvo C30 would look like.
Ford would be seriously mad to invest money in this, if rumors are correct, they are having enough trouble finding the funds to get an updated Territory into the showrooms, so why spend money on a small sportswagon that will only find a few hundred buyers a month. They would be better off spending the money on diesel drivetrain, or better yet locking the money in for a left hand drive variant to be exported to Europe.

I think Ford were right to put their eggs in the Territory basket, it dosen't really make much sense to develop a new wagon if, 1. Holden have the market stiched up, 2. Ford already have the Territory, and, 3. the BF Wagon isn't setting the world on fire, sales wise (and fair enough) All of which seem to be the case. |

i find it amusing that all these people say if ford built an xr wagon they would buy one, but the fact remains, ford did build xr6 wagons in the ed and ef range and sold only 476 in ef and even less of ed. these were not planned to be limited numbers models, thats all they could sell. there is not a big enough market to justify building a performance wagon.
i don't agree with the comment that holden have the market stitched up either. what holden have showed though is that it did not give commodore any increase in sales, it just stole sales off the sedan. this alone would be enough to stop ford investing in a whole new wagon. what ford should do instead, if they don't already is bring out an egas territory. i need/prefer wagons and ford is it for me. no other manufacturer offers the same passenger comfort and luggage area in the one package. put your lunchbox in a ve and you struggle to close the tailgate. i often travel interstate with my wife and daughter. i've recently had a 2nd daughter so my next trip will need to have a pram and/or stroller as well and maybe even a portacot, plus all our luggage. the falcon wagon, as its configured now, passes with flying colours. a 5 seat territory may too but they are thirstier and i don't like suv's. |

i guess now everyones realised what a useful and good looking car they missed out on. With people needing large spaces but dont want the fuel bill of a large 4WD, that dont want a Commodore or want an alternative to one the Ford would be perfect. With Liquid Injection LPG even better :P although that aint happenin any time soon

I would probably consider the following for my wife's next car if Ford built it:
Start with FG Territory 2wd, 1)lower it - not in the hoon sense, but drop it down to sedan ride height 2) Put as much of the sedan front end cosmetics on as possible. 3) Use as much sedan interior as possible. 4) Egas with long range tanks 5) G6 spec level This should give a vehicle taller than a Falcon, but cosmetically closer to a Falcon than a territory. It should push less wind, and would be more of a competitor for the Outback, than for the Prado. |

I know it's off topic, but does anybody know anything about whether or not we will be getting the Mondeo Wagon?
