Default Todays Sydney Auction Prices & my observations (opinions!)

Heres a quick list of Fords (with Crummydores thrown in for good measure as a comparison). No I didn't buy anything, although came very close to bidding for the Futura wagon with 67k on it.

Not too many irresistable bargains (in my opinion). Keep in mind 99% are with no rego, plus add 2.2% ($385 min) sellers fee, + $27.50 'admin' fee so probably looking at another $1k on top to get it on the road. The real cheap Falcons had 170K + on them.

FORD
06 FPV GT BF 81k - $28750
06 BF XT Wagon LPG 99K - $14750
03 BA XR6 Turbo 84K - $15500
05 BAII XR6 60K - $15300
05 BAII Futura Wagon 67K - $8250
05 BF Futura sedan 75k - $10950
04 Fiesta 30K - $8850
05 Focus LS LX 75K - $11400
02 BA Futura 170K - $5750
06 BF XT 5.4L 24K - $15300
04 BA XT 176K - $7600
05 BA XT Wagon 55K - $9000

Holden
06 Commodore Omega VE 50K - $16850
05 VZ SV6 92K - $15600
05 Statesman 71K - $16500
05 Berlina VZ wagon 94k - $13500
02 Calais 5.7L 134K - $11100
06 Acclaim Wagon 89K - $11800
04 VZ Exec 161K - $6500
03 VY 137K - $5600
05 VZ Exec 93K - $7950

A few of the 'cheap and nastys' today (although none looked that nasty actually)
94 Laser Liata LXI 223K - $3100 (looked pretty good)
97 Hyundai Lantra wagon 184K - $1700
93 Camry Wagon 139K - $2830
98 Toyota Vienta Vxi 165K - $4000 (not a bad looking car at all for the price)
96 Lancer 153K - $1700
96 Mazda 626 SDX 196K - $2600 (another that looked good)
95 Saab 900 160K - $1000 (passed in)
02 Ford AU3 Forte wagon 168K $3750

Problem with this place (Pickles) is because they leave the keys in, and I assume some of them sit for a while too, half of them have dead batterys (probably 25% of the ones I tried) which means you can't even start them up!

What I liked the look of (don't shoot me) was an 04 Maxima J31 ST-L with 31K for $13500. If you can get over the slightly different styling, this was a really comfy classy car inside. A bit grandpa ish though. I also liked the Subarus (04 Outback 110K $13850, 07 Liberty 34K $24000). A 98 WRX with 123k on it went for $9000. I don't know value of these things but I'm under the impression they are a little rocket and $9k was pretty reasonable)

Over and out.

Ive had my eye out for a BF 6 speed turbo ute for a while, but havent seen one yet when Ive had the chance to look,I saw a late au gas wagon with 50k on it go for 4000 which I thought was a bargain for the condition of the car..

Default Some excellent value there!

falconboy, thanks for posting the prices - makes for very interesting reading.

We buy a lot of our cars from Pickles. Here are three that we bought in August from Pickles Melbourne. Prices include auction fees.

11/02 BA Fairmont Ghia, 5.4 V8 85,000 klms $8,929 needed minor tidy up.

06/02 VX11 Executive sedan 6 cyl 128,000 klms $4,529

07/02 WH Statesman 5.7 litre V8 227,000 klms $ 6,679 Required recond trans which cost us $2,000. Bought car knowing this.

I am of the opinion that Pickles Perth is probably the cheapest priced cars.

Lots of bargains to be had for those who do their homework.

Rocket.

How is a two year old GT not to irresistable for $28 000?

Well, I suppose if you head along with $28000 burning a hole in your pocket it might be alright.

I forgot to say, it might have gone for a few more $ if it presented a bit nicer as it only had stockies on it. I'd say someone kept their mags (or Pickles staff nicked them!)

I didn't take a terribly close look, it was the last lot of the auction, I wasn't really interested in an AU and my ears were hurting from the loudspeaker. From what I saw it looked OK.

The GT is absolutely a notable buy. Just as well I wasn't there as I'd be itching at that price!

i've been hanging out at the s.a. govt auctions for a couple of months now looking for a new car.

not too many bargains so far for falcon wagons, esp gas. have to battle against plenty of dealers so if you want it you have to take it out of their reach 1st. still ends up a smidge cheaper than pickles fixed price cars here.

just have to be there at the right time. luckily for me, i'm in no rush to buy.

Unhappy Fixed price cars are generally expensive

prydey, I believe that the fixed prices on cars are set in order to jag the uneducated.

You could go about it another way. Maybe hop on a plane and go to Melbourne to buy one. If you need to buy locally - you could inspect the cars at pickles on the weekend and then bid online on auction day.

Or just bid online at any pickles auction in Australia, then go pick up your new car. When we buy from Perth it costs us about $458 per car to have it picked up and brought to Adelaide. The prices are mostly low enough to justify it.

Good luck with your search.

Stock rims you mean?...Not sure if that would have much impact...In fact having stock rims may enhance the price.

28 grand for a BF GT is a rock bottom price...sickening actually if youre a GT seller

Just did a search of pickles website. There are 2 BF Fairlane Ghias going up on monday in Adelaide. Both 4.0 litres with 6 speed autos. One is a fixed price car for $34,225. 04/07 with only 27,000 klms.

You can do a search on Pickles website anytime -

WOW, Those BA wagons were cheap & they were under 100k as well which was a surprise (typical of an LPG car to fetch a lot more) and that AU wagon price is good too.
I could have recently bought an 04 BA Wagon for $8750 with 167k but it was petrol only. :(

It's nice to see the Fords getting better money than the Dunnydores.

I agree with you on the Maxima, most underrated car ever. Even though FWD, the CVT and Ward-winning engine is really nice. I'd love to get one, get a rear lip to help the tallish look of the rear, dump it on 20s

Default Sense of adventure - yeah!

prydey - i agree with you. Who needs boundaries when you buy cars.

Plane travel is not expensive.

Just had a quick look at Falcons on Pickles site. Unfortunately the site does not discriminate between wagons and sedans. There are over 300 Falcons listed. Saw about 4 dedicated gas wagons in the first couple of pages. Seems low klm wagons have fixed prices around $20,000 , which to me would suggest a hammer price around $18,000.

So i reckon you are around the money.

Thats odd, most of the listings I've noticed (in the Sydney listings) do say sedan or wagon.

Before someone brings it up, I will mention my initial wish was to get a BA/BF Futura wagon, until I fell in love with my ED Fairmont 5L and thought I'd look for something with a bit of class and V8, hence looking for an EF/EL/NF/NL etc. However considering the prices they seem to be going for, for good ones, and the difficulty finding the 'perfect' one (not to mention some dodgy car dealers along the way , I thought I'd keep my options open for the BA/BF. If the BA Futura with good K's keep coming up for that sort of money, I think I would be mad not to go for it. I've seen Fairmonts/Fairlanes 6 years older for more money - as nice as they are I just don't think it makes sense. And those that have wagons know how damn handy they can be. I can always do some mods to the 6 down the track.

my wagon still for sale.

don't be scared to make an offer. don't be stupid either. from what i've seen it looks like wagons tend to get treated like work cars. either that or no one cares or i'm ultra fussy. possibly all of the above.

rocket - are you a dealer? maybe we can work something out where you buy one on my behalf or something with a small buyers fee for you :

If you click on motor vehicles - and then just complete the search box on the RHS with the first 3 columns only - it will give you a list of your chosen vehicle type australia wide.

prydey, sorry mate - we are not dealers - just enthusiasts.
We have a home improvement business in the northern area of Adelaide.
Our main focus with the cars is restoring Mustangs, but i get bored driving the same car all the time, so just play around with other cars.

Sorry, I think I misinterpreted your post. I thought you meant it didn't specify what they were. If you want to sort it better, at the bottom of the search thing there is a sort box, where you can sort by body type. At least that will stick the wagons in together. I searched Ford, Falcon, Sydney, sort by body, the last 30 or so are wagons.

Guys, if you're interested in prices of damaged B Series Falcons, just check out the thread at:

http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11235257

Some of the prices on this thread look quite high. You can get BA Mk2 XR6s for cheaper than 15k and turbos for cheaper than that as well. The BA Futura and BF GT seemed to be much more on the cheaper side.
