Best have a look at the cheapies first. Check the welds, the steel quality and thickness, axle quality and load bearing weight, is it ready wired for the car connecion?

and make sure they have compliance/engineering plate (which ever one it is they put on trailers).
if you plan on getting it registered, it will need this plate.

check trailer laws too, its very possible that it doesnt have to be registered because of the size of it.

cheers people,
we bought one $450, joint in sunshine.
the welds are very nicely done.
the paint is a little iffy but i'l fix that in the next couple of weeks.

oh and for other members the extra couple of hundred or so other places ask is worth it if you plan on using it regularly, just better quality all round but as i'm only gonna use once every 6 months this one ticked all the boxes.

wouldn't have a clue what mine is but before i owned it my dad did so its about 30 or so years old. its done adel - qld and vice versa about 10 times or more and is still going strong. floor is starting to get a few holes in it and i really should replace tyres as they are very old. plenty of tread. anyone know how old a 'uniroyal' tyre is.

i guess the moral is, as has been mentioned, if you plan on using it a lot or even if you don't, good ones will last the test of time.

$450 is very cheap you`ve done well, i`ve built a couple and refurbished a couple, they wont be making many buks out of that price.

Yes $450 sounds very cheap. If brand new, I would be surprised if that didnt even cover the labour or materials alone to make it?

Just make sure it doesnt need the VIN number stamped on the A Frame of the trailer. Being a small one I'm not sure if they need it, my dingo trailer needed the number put on with a metal stamping tool in order for Vic Roads to give me rego but it's rated to carry 1.5 tonne though

no rego needed for trailer as long as,
A trailer (other than a trailer used to carry a boat) which is not used in the course of trade and which
· weighs less than 200 kilograms unladen;
· and does not exceed the width of its towing vehicles as produced by the manufacturer, and
· is not more than 3 metres long, including its draw-bar and any load.

i will measure it tommorow to make sure it is not more than 3 metres long, 99.9% sure it isn't.

the trailer is new.
the only thing i don't like about there work is the paint very rushed job.

Our 12x6 has rims from a '46 Plymouth... Try finding a spare one of them, :
I think one of the tyres is still original though, its a whitewall radial and the only one that hasnt gone flat in 20 odd years...

Not quite in your area, but Blackburn Trailers have a good reputation.

In-laws spent 500 bucks on a 6x4 there about 6 years ago, and it still looks good.

Cheers

If it was Sunshine trailers (Berkshire Rd) It used to be owned by Ian Caruana, and they made a great value for money trailer. I built a dual axle tradesman type trailer using all his parts (axles, springs, brakes, hitch etc) years ago. He was a 3 month wait at the time, hence why I built. He then inspected & stamped for rego which I thought was pretty good form.

In my opinion,if its from sunshine trailers, keep it undercover and dont leave rubbish in it too long.Mine lasted 1 yr before the floor needed replacing,I think they forgot the primer before the rotten paint job.It was given to me brand new to replace mine that had been stolen.I would have been p155ed off if I had of payed for it myself.
cheers George :

the place is the trailer joint on central avenue.
family business mum dad and son.

i gave them some 16' rims &old tyres of a ba (we own/run cabs) and got a front door for it.

as i have already said the painting is rushed but the materials used look good the welds are good and i will give a proper paint job int he next couple of weeks.
there is place in epping that does them for $410 new but that is not worth it imo.

oh and i measured it up, looks all good to me for no rego needed. behind an falcon at least.
