can anyone explain the advantage of this conversion? is it worthwhile? my car was originally a 1.6 model so i believe it has the smaller strut tops etc, do the struts have to come from a v6 capri or are 4cyl the same?, i also heard that you have to use the capri steering rack, is this right? would appreciate any info from you escort guru's, thanx jeff

The capri struts have a tube thickness is 0.5mm thicker the the 2.0 escorts and lowers the ride height by 20mm. The capri tube length is also 3mm longer then the 2.0 ones but this doesn't really have any affect on anything. You will need to get different tie rod ends know as "green tie rods ends" or you can have your Capri steering arms machined to suit you tie rod ends. If you get capri struts make sure you get the hub as well because you can't get a bearing to be able to use the Mk2 hubs. Basically the capri's are stronger and have bigger brakes, although parts can be harder to find. The only difference between the V6 & 1600 struts is the spring rate. Everything else is identical. Heavier spring have no real advantage in a light weight crossflow car, in fact they can make the car unstable and lift the front wheel with up force, ie coming out of a bend or under heavy braking.
