Default queensland ban on turbos....?????

hey guys i heard at work today, that as of the end of june, puting a turbo on a car that does not have a turbo modal as such (like the au and e series falcons does not have a turbo model like the ba does) will not be considered street legal. (this is in queensland). i am under the impression that because the ba/bfs have a turbo model (ie xr6t) u can put an aftermarket turbo on an xt, but because other falcons did not have a turbo come as standard such as the au, they would not be considered street legal if the turbo was put on the car after june. i want to know if anyone else has heard this or if they know anything more....cause if this is true, my plans of adding a turbo to my au in a few years will cease to exist and i will be extreamly annoyed. sirfice to say I feel the need to kill peter beatie and his crew of extremely annoying minions :

(sorry if the infomation i put into this thread is a little vague but this is all i know at the moment)

I wonder if it would also cover putting a turbo on a diesel fourby. If so, :

I'd actually heard the same thing but supercharging was to be affected too.. Ie: unless you have a factory supercharged car (ie 1% of cars on the road) aftermarket ones will not be engineered..

That will be interesting, I wonder what Toyota will say when their aftermarket fitted supercharged TRD is banned in QLD because it was fitted by Prodrive?
Or the Walkinshaw HSVs?

Premier Pete, regardless or his belief is his holy status as God Emporer of QLD had to comply with federal law and if it complies with ADRs there is NOTHING he can do about it.

You know what... its not so much the polys I blame for all these bullshit laws and what not... Its the douchebags that drive around in their modded out POS, poser boy ***** extensions, breaking laws, and being a general nuisance. What's wrong with taking your car to a track day instead of driving like a moron in traffic. If that didn't happen, these ridiculos laws wouldn't happen. ARGHH! IDIOTS!

i just spoke to a friend that works at Queensland Transport. she said that the new laws coming in only affect drivers under 25. basically anyone under 25 will not be allowed to drive a turbocharged vehicle, period. nothing to do with modifying a car that didn't come with a turbo as an option.

yep, they have just been undergoing training about all these new laws coming in and she said there was nothing about modifying vehicles. obviously this would now only apply to 25+ drivers.

the main focus is on the inexperienced drivers killing themselves in high performance cars, so they're trying to do something about it.

apparently you will be able to learn to drive in a turbocharged vehicle if that is the only family car in the household and you can turn up to the driving test in it, but you will not be able to drive away in the same car once you pass your driving test, if you're under 25.

makes me smile

Isn't it under 25's = no huffers, no hairdryers and no V8's ?

Good idea in my book.

Pfft. Just like the NSW plan to cut P-plate deaths by stopping them driving high powered cars. That worked, didn't it? :

Any car is capable of driving at dangerously high speeds in different situations. Take them out of a v8 falcon/commodore, they will do the same damn thing in an excel. Only I know which car I'd rather have an accident in.

The politician who has the guts to get serious about proper driver education, and not driver restrictions, will get my respect. And don't tell me that they have done that by upping the hours for a learner, thats a cheap copout. If they really want to save these kids lives, get them to attend a driver training course.

Thank Christ I got my licence before those laws came in.

well, i guess kids are less likely to do stupid stuff on their L's with a more experienced driver in the passenger seat than they are if they were in a car by themselves on their P's

Ha.... try telling that to this guvmint down here in Bracktoria.
ADR's state a cars speedo can have a built in tolerance of +/-10%, IIRC, yet we can get fined for travelling at a speed that is indicated to be within that 10% window allowed by the ADR's.
Something tells me that this law will be introduced, irrespective of what the ADR's state.
