And this is why I traded my Mustang rather than running the gauntlet of selling privately. I recently listed and sold a number of high-end garden tools, the amount of nonsense I had to deal with was unbelievable. And just think, we allow people to breed freely.

Thats a cultural thing with them, they don't value anyone's time and wont think twice about bogging you down for something they never intend on purchasing, I call them 3030s (Point Cook's post code).

I got a sixth sense for people trying to negotiate with me, easy way to do it was RRP + 20%, then give 10% 'discount' and they think they got a win.

I do the same if the guy has a strong white accent and is white. They are the most entitled bunch like they're doing me a favour buying what I have for sale and i should give it to them for virtually nothing. They typically come with a mate who is an "expert" on the subject.

When selling my Mercs and the Race car, the white people just wasted my time. The ones that bought them were the Greek/Italians.

What a completely low trust society modern Australia has become!

I just don't sell to anyone. It's why I end up keeping my cars so long and they 4x to 30x in price.

You could list a car free and people would want you to drive it to their place and drop it off i reckon.

Pretty sure Greeks and Italians are white last time I checked

2005 BF GT with 160,000km. BF GT is my favourite looking Ford ever mate, if I could pick one up for 25k in reasonable condition, i'd be very tempted. Just a shame I dont like the engine, otherwise i'd have one in my garage already.

Swap it for a Miami. They're for sale for $23k at Jefferson Ford.

I will say a cammed BOSS 5.4 is a great cruiser with beautiful engine note. The Miami doesn't come close IMO.

It’s not just second-tier cars that are suffering value drops. This caught my eye; probably owes the dealer $2500.

(Ticks a lot of boxes for me; French, historically imbued, patinæd, neither flashy nor stratospherically priced. Shame I don’t really need it!)

Talk about value drops.
I had a look at this a few months ago when he had $22k on it. A few cosmetic issue not disclosed which put me off (along with Camry indicator/wiper stalks and me having a too high of an expectation of ride quality) but not a deal breaker at his current price.

The market is dead.

In all my years buying and selling cars, etc. I cannot recall it ever being this slow, infact slow would be something, nothing is moving at all.
Even dealer listed popular daily drivers that have been listed for weeks arent moving and seeing price reductions.

The market is flooded with Prado's since the new model arrived in showrooms, which is what an industry insider friend predicted, yards cant move the tradeins.

I traded mine last week thankfully to a country dealer and it would seem I got good money but am yet to take delivery of the replacement so the Prado is still in my drive.
I thought Id list it to see If I could get a bit more privately, set the price below dealer manual examples, mine has between 50-100k less k's and reduced it gradually to below trade in value, nothing, not even arshdeep requesting emails.

This 2001 AU III Falcon is a very strange spec.

With the white painted grill, it looks to be the Forte-based SR. But it also has the 5.0 V8 and Tickford 17-inch wheels. If the seller had bothered to take a photo of the interior, it would likely confirm if it was a Forte or SR. Still, how many Forte's drove off the line with the V8.

AU1 XR rims.
Were those rims carried over to the lesser models or one off sticker packs for Series 2/3?
All about perspective but interesting to see his pricing for that.
Many V8 AU Fairlanes/LTD at a cheaper price which IMO are a better buy.

AU - Those wheels were the Tickford option and were available across the sedan range, not just XR's. Actually, they weren't even standard on the XR8 but most had them fitted. These were a $2050 to $2450 option depending on model and also required Tickford Sports Suspension.

AU II - The XR8 finally got 17-inch wheels, a new design shared with the XR6. The old 17-inch wheel remained optional across the non-XR range via Tickford. Again, a $2050 option.

AU III - Again, these wheels were the optional Tickford option offered for non-XR models. $1962 for a set of 4 and $2532 for a set of 5.

They also appeared on the Fairlane Millenium Edition.

I actually bought a brand new set of them for my AU III Fairmont, who remembers Wheel King? They used to sell factory Ford and Holden wheels back in the day.

That looks to be an AUII. Rego tells me AUII also. Compliance 07/01. Didnt AUIII start 11/11?
V8 was an option with the SR. Id assume it'd have a Tickford ID plate (not sure on that though) if they were factory fitted.

Kool car though i think.

One of our cars is a 2012 4WD dual cab Hilux in immaculate condition. We have been thinking about trading it in and buying something new and maybe a little more comfortable.
We took it to a dealer the other day and talked about trading it in where he quite sincerely offered $10000 as a trade in. Good ones are still bringing $25000-$30000 and he couldn't figure out why we just walked. We will sell it privately and just buy a new one for cash and not from that dealer.

I guess he's got to make money on it too,

They've got pay you for it, then put it through the workshop to get it sorted for road worthiness, pay for listings on various websites and then store it until it sells - while paying for everyone's time at every step of the process, then negotiate with potential buyers who are going to haggle.

…And leave a margin for contingency in case of comebacks they’re liable for, assuming it’s retailed off the lot.

The dealer deserves credit for putting his offer clearly on the table, I’m sure a private sale is a much better choice though.

Thanks, shit those series 1 XRs look good in red and Tickford body kit.
Come to think of it I can remember some of the Fairmont Ghia with the body kit also the same wheels.
What did the XR8s come with standard, this abomination? I only recall seeing these on the base XR6 with non VCT and solid rear axle.

Ford must have had a hard time selling base model V8, I can remember Holden offered the VT executive LS1 and 6spd.

Before I bought my VF2 SS Ute. I went to a dealer in Perth who had a VF1 SS Ute on the lot.
Bullshitting salesman thought I was gonna buy it then and there.
I was going to buy it, but told him I’d think about it over the weekend, and asked him for a trade in price. He told me he will talk trade in prices when I’m ready to sigh the dotted line. His petulant attitude changed my mind instantly.
I went and bought a VF2 in Melbourne for $20k more.

Holden stopped the base model V8 when they launched the VY, creating the SV8 in the process.

And yes, those were the standard wheels used on early AU series 1. At some point, they started using the shark fin 16-inch wheels that appeared on the Falcon S sedan and XLS Ute, and carried over to the AU II and AU II XR6 HP.

Never did understand the point of the Falcon S in the AU series. They had two versions of the XR6, the Falcon S used the same suspension and wheel package as the XR6 HP, but without the HP engine. So, I don't know why Ford thought anyone would buy the Falcon S when the XR6 HP was only a little bit more expensive is beyond me.

I fully understand what you are saying.
They know the vehicle's history from day 1 and it's near perfect.
They know exactly what has been replaced or updated as they have serviced it.
They know it's just had a complete respray, done by them, under warranty for the peeling clear coat.
I knew I wouldn't get retail for it but I thought it would have been a better figure than the 10 offered.

I went and bought a VF2 in Melbourne for $20k more.

If they weren’t still so stupidly expensive, there would be one in my garage. Best NA engine to go in an Australian produced car, period.

When you can buy an immaculate manual Mustang with 20,000km for 40k compared to a VF Clubsport with 150,000km for 60k, it’s makes it a very hard sell.

Still the love the LS3 though, I had it in a VE Clubsport. Loved the driveline and engine, but that car itself was junk, so only lasted a year with me.

Been a bit of talk in here about crap vehicle listings by people selling cars, check out this joint cult and classic - this is how you sell a car:
