Hi everyone, we have a 2010 MB Mondeo titanium in the family, 2.0 diesel but I’m struggling to find out any details on the transmission type fitted and if it’s the PowerShift or if that was fitted to the later models. Any tips on how I can easily tell? TIA

Wet Clutch MPS6 Powershift was fitted to Mondeo from 1/4/2010 and only in certain models. If you can pass on your VIN we can confirm what is in your vehicle. Otherwise it will have the AWF21 traditional auto transmission.

If it is a Powershift it will probably say so on the gear shift lever.

Thanks GT legend, I will grab the VIN and post when I next get a chance..
Otherwise no indication anywhere on the car that I can identify to confirm if it is or not. The owners manual includes both trans types but does not specify which one ours is fitted with. |

The Powershift is quite different to drive as it doesn't have a torque converter. It feels like a manual with an automatic clutch - you don't get the revs changing like a normal auto.
If you've driven both you'd know instantly but it's difficult to describe.

I describe it (especially on hills) as like a learner driver driving a manual.

Well I’m confident it’s not a PowerShift trans as it drives the same as a conventional auto, there are no visible markings or branding to suggest it is. The reason I ask is recently the gearbox has become quite sloppy and hesitant when stopping/starting. A bit erratic under acceleration. Am getting it serviced this week as car has now done 140k and I’m guessing is well overdue for a transmission service.

Definitely keen to get updates on this. As far as i'm aware, auto trans services only really involve changing the fluid. If the trans is slipping and hesitating, a fluid change could actually make it perform even worse - if the root cause is the loss of adhered grit on the various slip discs inside the trans. see this excellent youtube video that talks about this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o690DovjDAc Would like to know how you go, what the mechanic thinks after they've driven it and had a poke around |

Picked up car after all of about an hour at the local trans 'specialist'. He's said it's a power shift model and has taken it for a quick drive and wants nothing to do with it.. too hard it seems which has ****ed me off quite a bit after waiting 2 weeks for a booking. Absolutely less than no help really. Still want to confirm if it's a power shift model, VIN is WF0EXXGBBEAJ15341 build may 2010. Is a titanium diesel 2.0

Its imperative that the wet clutch MPS6 Powershift is serviced every 60K kms. You will see a lot of failures not much after the 60K kmson these if they are not serviced correctly.
Have you tried taking it to your local Ford dealer (not sure where exactly you are) for at least some diagnosis and a quote. You may be surprised in some instances there are good dealers around. A reputable auto trans place in Melbourne you can also try below. https://abautomatics.com.au/ |
