Default Mystery Doorstop

Wondering if anyone has seen something like this before. Picked up within sight of the Lithgow armament factory. Thought it might be someone’s lost wax hobby casting. Really heavy, think maybe bronze as there’s no corrosion breaking through the plating. Don’t feel it’s a silver alloy, as no verdigris or black oxide.

The gait is awkward and details clumsy. That grossness is part of why it caught my attention.

The base looks like coachwood or red almond. Unfortunately it’s had an amateur re-bonding.

Curious to hear any thoughts.

Many horse studs around where you found it ?

Reminds me of the ones you would see on either a bookies or racehorse owners car bonnet.

How long is it ?

The cast base - which is flat - is a little under eight inches long.

Don’t think there’s any studs around the area, maybe in the past.

Maybe treasure brought to Australia from the old country?

Or a craft project by a hobbyist.

Very interesting! That one is so much better made, though.

Could it have had a jockey on at one stage, sort of looks like hands holding the reins.
All the leather strapping stuff (saddlery?) looks like it was used for pulling.
But a cart horse wouldn't get up a gallop.
It's a strange one.

Sure is a strange one.

I put a fairly strong magnet against it. Way less attraction than steel, but more than a 50¢ piece.
