Well, over the last few days my cold idle has been getting worse and worse, until today when i had to pump the accelerator to stop it from stalling...It seems that all the symptoms lead to a blocked ICS...so this afternoon, I tried to clean it out, and this is what I found...
I tried following the pictures on fordmods, but they are too blurry to see...so this is what I want to know 1) how do i unhook the electrical connector so that i can move the ISC away from the engine bay? and 2) Are the ports on the engine side really really blocked or are they shaped like that? By the way it's a 3.9 MPFI...Thanks |

they are shaped like that but it looks like its got a bit of crap in there... use some carby cleaner and spray it out. the electrical connector just plugs together.. you can just pull it apart

Aright: What you have to do is 1) remove the airbox clips so you can romove the top airbox tube 2) remove the plastic rubber cover thingy over the elecrical connector, because then it comes apart easily. From then on it is all the same...Sorry i'm just a noob and the FordMods tute didn't make these two steps clear enough :P

Yeah on my old EA falcon I cleaned the ISC out with some carbie cleaner, did the trick. Buy some gasket paper and replace the gasket before bolting it back down. That plug requires a bit of force to get it apart. I think the one on my old car was melted a bit so I used multi grips to get it apart.

mine too, my idle sucks with the cold weather at the moment
once i undo the two bolts i can't seem to separate it though

Yep, I cleaned it and it idles great now. New problem though, got home after a "spirited" drive and the coolant was BOILING :\ Time to nip into Natrad and pick up a new radiator and thermoswitch me thinks....

selekta - i've been caught out a few times with the coolant boiling in the resevoir after stopping...the trick is to leave the car running for a bit after you've given it a flogging instead of driving 15km full throttle then switching it straight off. You either drive it slow for a bit or let it idle high - ie about 1000rpm to let the engine itself cool down (the temp guage might look fine but if the engine is still hot the coolant will heat up quick without any flow)

cooling system is heaps better with a good thermostat and new radiator too..

i cannot work out how to make a new thread and cannot find a thread in relation to my problem but
i have an el falcon it cranks but does not start it starts when you spray some fuel into the throttle and runs perfectly fine once started i cannot work out why it needs help to start any info would be great |
