Default Takata airbags

The 2007-2009 Mondeo are about to be added to this recall.

My understanding is that the "alpha" airbags requiring the most urgent replacement are not fitted to Mondeo but suggest everyone keep a look out for more information.

I rang Ford Australia and was told 2007-2009 and 2015-2017 Mondeos are affected. Wonder why the 2010 to 2014s are not included.

Good to know it isn't the problematic 'Alpha' bags, though. Otherwise I'm not sure if I'd want to drive it.

I'm very suspicious of the gap in Mondeo model years. I guess it is totally feasible they changed to a different supplier for a period and then switched back. But I also suspect they could be gradually rolling out the list (working down the priority of age/risk) and we're going to keep seeing more models added to it. Between the various manufacturers it seems they're well on the way to naming every car in Australia!

So far, it looks like that's the case. Ford's response to the ACCC's proposed recall notice (submitted around September/October 2017) has a little more detail.

https://consultation.accc.gov.au/pro...cc-undated.pdf

On page 4, there's a table of models Ford identified for this second round ("Ford Australia vehicles using Affected Goods") that seems to match the recent list on the Ford site with more information on numbers and build dates. There's also explanations on the Mondeo date ranges on the same page. Section 18.2 explains the 2007-2009 Mondeos: "From July 2009, the airbag in the CD345 Mondeo was replaced with a TRW airbag which does not use an ammonium nitrate inflator". And Section 18.3 the 2015-2017: "From March 2017, the airbag inflator used in the CD391 Mondeo was replaced with an Autoliv inflator which does not use an ammonium nitrate inflator".

So at least for now it looks like the Mondeos that aren't listed should be OK.

It seems most other manufacturers didn't include this information in the public versions of their submissions - I had a look at Subaru, Mazda, Mitsubishi and GMH (404 pages!) and couldn't see anything similar there. If anyone's interested, the link for all received submissions is below.

The Ford website have recall test window where you enter your VIN number and will show you if there are any recalls for your vehicle. My Mondeo built in May 2017 showed zero recall issues.

'recall data not found' was the message I got. Not quite the same as no recall.

It only affects early 2017 Mondeos, the internal memo is much more detailed than the press release on the website. It makes sense that yours shows zero recall issues.

'No Campaign Message(s) Found'. I wonder if that means mine isn't part of the recall, even though it's a 2016 build.

You can also PM your VIN to the Ford Australia Facebook page and they will check for you.
