Default Presents from Santa..... wrapped or unwrapped.

So, for years the missus & I have this ongoing debate on whether the kids pressies should be wrapped under the tree after the big man comes.

Her family always left them unwrapped & in the bedroom of the kids. Which makes NO sense to me.

For me, ours were always under the tree wrapped. Which makes perfect sense.

Every movie you've ever seen with the Jolly man shows him putting wrapped presents under the tree, photos, paintings, cartoons, all follow this folklore, and in my mind should be the same.

Am I wrong? I just can't fathom it. It does my head in.

Or maybe her parents just didn't want to wrap anymore presents!

On a serious note, Merry Christmas to all.

I'm with you Revolver, wrapped and under the tree...except for what we call stocking stuffers which, of coarse go in to a christmas stocking and get hung on the end of the bed or placed at the foot end of the bed so the kids cant miss them, generally we don't bother to wrap them as they're in the stocking.

.....and yes, I was woken before 6am by my kids wanting to rip into their presents before mum came home from work. They get to open a couple each from mum and dad to keep them occupied, but the rest, including the combined presents and the ones from "Santa", have to wait till she gets home.

Well my wife was up to 2am wrapping presents.
Only time you can get when little eyes won't spot what's going on.

The excitement at 8am (thankfully not 6am) was sooooo worth it.

I'm happy to believe in Santa if it means I get to eat choc-chip cookies at 2am, and the 6 year old thinks it's great that she gets the leftovers....

I think your in-laws are just lazy. Put the effort in now - childhood only lasts for so long, so give them the joy & excitement while you can.

Hmmm my childhood was midway between both methods by the looks.

Santa's gift were always unwrapped, but hidden in a sack for each child (the sack was a festive themed, oversized pillow case really).

Parents from Mum & Dad were always wrapped (unless it was something like a bicycle).

I thought it was a good arrangement - we always knew what Santa had brought vs the gifts from Mum & Dad.

As per the believing in Santa thing - didn't cause me, my siblings or friends any harm, so I'm all for the fun it brings for a kid.

The gifts from family and friends were always wrapped and placed under the tree when they were received to be ready for distribution and unwrapping Christmas morning.

The presents from Santa were never wrapped and they were placed at the end of each child’s bed.

My wife and I both grew up in families that did this and we continued it with our own children.

Having the unwrapped Santa presents in their rooms kept the kids busy from the moment they’d wake up while we’d lay in bed and leave them to it, or at least we’d like to think it worked that way.

Most of the time we had an endless procession of them coming back and forth to show us what Santa gave them.

Later in the morning we’d all sit around and open the wrapped gifts.

I don’t think it hurts for the kids to believe in Santa for as long as they’d like to, I know I still do.

I got kicked out of class in grade 3 and told how 'I ruined everyones christmas' when I yelled out that santa wasn't real in class, because I didn't want to participate in this BS 'writing letters to santa' activity the teacher was putting on us.

Then the other parents had a go at my mum in the local IGA about it

Same thing my parents did when I grew up. All santa presents were in a Christmas pillowcase at the end of the bed. The ones from the olds were wrapped under the tree

WTF is all this **** about Santa not being real...

He most certainly is real and obviously thinks way more of me than some of you because ALL his gifts to me are wrapped and in the conveniently decorated pillow case i leave hanging by the fireplace.
And the only reason i don't let him leave my pressies in a 'sack' at the end of my bed is because the missus sleeps starkers and I don't feel comfortable having an old dude copping a peek whilst I'm sleeping, fair enough if I'm awake, its kinky, but not while I'm sleeping as there's nothing in it for me.

We were actually going to wrap santa stuff this year but were lazy. Our kids stockings are so big my sons skateboard and nerf gun fit in. My daughter had to go into her stocking as she got smaller stuff hahahahahaha. In this house santa gets left a jacks and coke and cashews or instructions where to find the connoisseur ice cream.

When I was young a some of the presents were wrapped in newspaper because santa sometimes ran out of wrapping paper, also my father said we had to leave a bottle of beer out for him to thank him for all his hard work.

Tried that last year - and the (at the time) 5 year old screamed at us saying "no, Santa can't drink & drive the sleigh."

Good to see the anti drink-driving messages getting through at such an early age, but disappointing for Santa...

Back when I was young Santa always left wrapped gifts under the tree. I didn't even know about the stocking or stocking fillers. Problem is, my son is the only grandson/nephew on my side, so the ritual of unwrapped presents and a stocking full of fillers is the norm with the wifes family, considering my son it the 6th grand child on the wifes side (the preceding 5 are from the older siblings, so are the later 2 additions) I have been forced into adopting the best part of a boot load of stuff into the bedroom of a sleeping child.

It was always wrapped and under the tree growing up for me, and we do the same.. All gifts under the tree wrapped and My wife, my son and I have stockings we hange up on the window sill with "random" gifts between the wife and me and few smaller things for my son...

This Christmas the wife and I where up at 6 am and we had to wait for my son (2 years old) to wake up before we could open the presents...lol.. talk about a reversal...
