Ratchet style tie downs

I have stacks of these varying from full truck size down to small hobby thingys pic below as sample what Iam yakking about.but once your've used them and wrapped them up again

how does one keep then wrapped up, looking for ideas

Wrap them around themselves and then use a rubber band.
Not sure that would work on a truck version, but works on the smaller ones.

Easy:
1: Stretch them out.
2: Wrap them up neatly into a roll, include the ratchet bit with them.
3: Place carefully in a bag for next time.
4: When needed again, open bag.
5: Swear loudly as you realise they've somehow all on their own turned into a Gordian Knot of tangled complexity.
6: Start pulling them out, still swearing.
7: Try to find which end belongs to which.
8: Realise you've got two ends of different straps, start again.
9: Tip bag out onto ground, swearing some more.
10: Sit down and try to untangle, contemplating whether it would be easier to just buy a pack of new ones.


Seriously though, yeah, wrap them around themselves and use a couple of heavy red rubber bands.

shut up, shut up I hate you, You were watching me yesterday, I know you were.

For the smaller ones had a chat with our friendly postie and he gave me a bundle of good heavy duty rubber bands in exchange for a couple of cold ones after work. For larger oones bought some big reusable cable ties..

Just do what some tradies do and allow them to bounce along the road as they hang off the back of your one tonner.

If the Posties Bands aren't big enough get some hair bands that the ladies use to tie their hair back.

You can even get them in pretty colours

Those steps above is exactly what happens ... get used to it ....
I hate it when some decides in their infinite wisdom to loosen the ratchet off to un hook one side from the rail. Then realise they have no idea how to loosen the rest of the bundle from the ratchet.

Thank god I do't have to deal with that crap again ... especially in the rain.

Don't even remind be about people who don't understand how to loosen ratchet straps. Every year I at some point end up with the 1st year and I have ratchets mounted to my roof racks...... then again, the other guys in vans without central locking or electric windows have to teach them how to lock the door and what the handle on the door trim does...

Pull the long end out of the ratchet completely. Roll up neatly. Place in toolbox with the ratchet. What is so hard about that?

I made up a holder for them out of 5 or 6mm bar. welded into a II shape with small lugs on the tips to stop them falling off. Then wrapped them around and secured the end like normal. Always neat and tidy. If I think of it I'll snap a picture and load it up when I'm home.

That photo looks a little different to what I use.. but this is what I do. I just realised that I did the close up on the ugliest one of the bunch. It normally looks a little better than that as you can see by the ones in the background.

Isn't the rule of rope " if you can't tie knots tie lots?". My father in law taught me the trick of putting a loop in the rope and pull it down and then you go through it again and tie it off. Kind of like the block and tackle without the block and tackle. Hence why I like ratchets on the ute, and why the over under over under over under and back on itself on the cleats has never left me coming back to the wharf without a boat be in tied up

Easy step 1: pull full length through so one end is the ratchet and other is the hook then tightly role once done place role on flat surface and pull ratchet end to remove slack the store lying flat and boom! You have a tidy ratchet strap
