Default Crow Cams, help?

Hi Guys

I want to get the best performance cam I can get.. probably from crow cams.. but keeping stock ecu and no Chip

Do i just need the camshaft or other parts with it? It's for an EA Ghia

Also ..(I should probably post a new thread but i'll ask here anyway) I've seen a lot of photo's of EA, EB, ED Engine bays where the owners have made a bit of a shield near the airbox to keep engine heat away.. kind of a cold air induction system I guess.. does anyone know how to make one of these or if you can buy them?

My loan just got approved (It's only a small loan!) and once my cars painted I want to get Extractors, 2.5 exhaust and high flow cat, and the cam..Then I'll be happy .... also K&N Filter but I want to know about that shield (Or is this only needed with pod filters?)

cheers for any help
:voldar02:

Yep you can pick up a cam shaft and shim from Crowcams and not have to worry about the ecu.. While your at it I suggest getting a Vernier adjustable gear, makes life easier to time it, and you can 'trick' the computer..

as for the head shields ive seen them for sale at Repco.. IF you dont have the airbox and your running a pod, its actually illegal if you dont have some kind of shield..

Should I bother if im just using a K&N Replacement filter.. I wouldn't really need the shield if i do this would I?

I think I'd have to get a pro to install it and do the timing.. what do you think i'd be looking at for labour here?

Stiddy, with Crow Cams, you don't need shims with them.

I have a Crow cam in my machine, I also got the valve springs replaced and have a vernier gear installed too. I don't have a chip yet, it seems to be running A1 at the moment, I'm expecting the chip to fix the doughieness down low though.

Two pointers though, make absolutely sure you have the right parts for your car, and choose your mechanic wisely. The second part I did right, I was originally going to take it to a mech who "forgot" that Ford I6's were OHC.

Did you get the springs from crow or just get the mechanic to change them, how much is the chip going to cost you?

Looking at that site. I'd want the 2222549 Cam and XR6 Valve springs? (7739-12) would this fit my EA?? what about the vernier adjustable gear??

I have no clue with all this stuff except the cam I just want to know what to order so i can go to my mechanic :P

I'm 100% certain it was the 2222549 cam. Makes power about 2300rpm and doesn't stop til around 4500rpm.

I got the double valve springs from Crow, and ordered the gear from Crow via Repco. Make sure you get the right retainers for you car too. Otherwise the collets won't fit, and you'll be in trouble then.

Chip I already have, going to cost $550 installed and tuned.

You wouldn't mind making me a parts list with crow order numbers would you? so I don't stuff up!

I just want to be able to place the order and know i got everything right.
Do you think the chip is really needed? I suppose i can always upgrade later

How much the actual chip

Just make sure you get retainers for an EA... not an AU.

but everything else you listed is fine for my order? doing all this stuff to my EA will probably make it about the same power as a stock AU lol
