Yeah, I know, I'm probably being hopelessly naive, but do electronic rust protection systems do anything? I'm in the situation where I've got an XC panelvan with bad rust and I want to stop it getting worse till I can make it better so these rust protection systems are intriguing.
The one I've been reading about is the Counteract system (http://www.counteractrust.com) but the only thing I can find on the net is propaganda by the makers. Anyone had any experience with these? |

I have one on my hilux which i take to the beach a bit and I have never had any rust problems. One of my mates dads has a old landcrusier which had a rust spot on it, after installing a Electronic rust protection unit the rust has not spread any further and that was over 12 years ago. So my experience is that they work very well.

The idea of rust protection is that you 'electrify' the chassis so that it does not attract the particles that promote rust. I would have thought that using the chassis as an active 'earth' would have been able to do enough. However some of the things like doors and fenders might not be electrically connected so all these systems might do is connect them electrically to the chassis?
just guessing though.

Dang. So that's a "yes", a "I don't know", and a "no". You guys aren't making this easy.
AnthonyQLD, what did you pay all up to get it installed? |

My girldriends family has two Uncles with Subarus (Outback and a Forester) and they both have the electronic rust protection and neither of the two cars have any rust from numerous beach trips.
But all Subarus have a galvinised body so this helps somewhat. |

I was heavily involved in these systems and can tell you it works if you start with a new or rust free vehicle. It's not designed to stop a rusty vehicle rusting any further although it can help. There are some brands that are not fully conversant with the complicated technoligy. The firm I would recommend can be found at www.erps.com.au
