Default Capri towing cap

This may seem like a left field question but does anyone know the towing capacity for a v6 capri? (Braked) I've got the towbar already because I knew I would want to use my little box trailer from time to time

But was going to get a boat in the next couple of years and my plan was to replace the family's lancer with something better and tow it with that but since it's not going to be a massive boat I'm wondering if the capri will do it?

Trailer boat and all the gear should be around 1500kg. The capris front brakes have been uprated to willwood 4 pots and the engine is fresly rebuilt.

I searched the net but couldn't find a great deal of numbers.

Thanks in advance.

While I don't know I don't like the idea of a 1 tonne car (assuming its the Mk1 or 2 capri) towing one and a half its weight braked or not. Changing direction and stability the real issue for me over braking performance.

Tail waging the dog scenario springs to mind.

Yep I want to check all the Maths. But the towing guidelines say that if a vehicle has no stated towing capacity then the max legal limit it 1.5 times it's weight when towing a braked trailer.

If it can't be done I won't worry too much cause the lancer is well past it's use by date. But I have seen 3l v6 cars with a towing capacity of 2000kg so is that primarily down to its weight?

Im sure the V6 will be fine, for me its the weight that's the issue not engine power. I have towed many different things, race cars, boats and mobile billboards to name a few and I don't like towing with anything that light compared to the load. Im sure it's Ok if its OK but just not for me from a personal safety perspective.
What model Capri is it.

My Mk1 Capri 3000GT 4spd manual rego papers say 1075kg tare weight.
So, according to above multiplier, max legal limit is 1612.5kg.

OMG!!!....poor little car !!!

Lol that's a crack up.

Ok so it looks like unless I get a smaller boat (yeah right!) then I'll have to stick with plan A

Not going to put my freshly restored capri in a ditch.

Cheers

Yeah wouldn't try it either. You would be alright on a road with the trailer in equilibrium meaning not to much weight on the towball. But walk down a boat ramp and feel how slippery they are covered with moss. Capris are meant to be towed not made for towing. Keith
