Fuso or Hino

perhaps not the right place but I trust the advice here.
My 1987 dyna 150 finally gave her life over to the almighty 5 days ago in a blaze of glory delivering her last load to site. having to be towed the last 200m to the finish line by my suby's hilux ...... truly a vehicle driven into the ground. I'm taking her to the farm and going to grow flowers out of her tray (that bit is actually true) anyway.
I can get a auto fuso 413 with a 3.7 tray for 43000 on road. OR.......
a Hino 616 Medium IFS for 48 000 on road same tray.
both factory new.

What are peoples opinion on driving it and actual work horse ability of the two.
We primarily build and install joinery items to commercial sites. So cabinets, panels up to 3.6m, timber etc. basically a fancy pants carpenter business ,

Had a look at the Isuzu?

Have a few clients with them and they are bullet proof, and have some good features (reverse cameras, bluetooth etc).

I have driven all three makes...whilst they were all larger models than you are looking at I can say that the Isuzu's do stand out to me. Both in drivability as well as comfort and the technology offered

Last 7 year my old man has Isuzu's, not a single one has had an issues. He was a little annoyed that the current model doesn't have a glovebox.

we have both hino and isuzu id go isuzu both have been relaible but i think isuzu is the better option

Avoid new isuzus like the plague, they have a massive reliability problem with the exhaust burn off system that is used to cut it to strict euro standards. Hino have lifted there game massive in the last 6-7 years

I drive for Star Track . We have used Mitsubishi's for years and have just bought some Hinos as well as new Fuso's .

All those who have driven both said the new Fuso canter is better than the Hino .

But it's personal opinion too . To drive both see what you prefer to drive .

Got some of those new dual clutch Auto 515 model Fusos and they are seriously awful things. They went way backwards with the 2012+ model.
We've had three or four already require new gearboxes before their first service. The thing is so clunky, and the shift strategy is just stupid, just continously hunting for gears. Sure you can change gears yourself, but its just so slow to react.
They also went backwards with the engine; less capacity, less power and torque.
Also smaller wheels, tyres and brakes!

I havnt driven a manual one, but dont buy an auto one if you havnt driven it yet.

2009-2011 ones was fantastic, proper 6speed torque converter auto, 4.9L I4 that had heaps of grunt and we never had an issue with them.

Those little Hinos have never been much chop, the bigger stuff is great however.

What problems are they having? , when I was working with the DPF Isuzus a couple of years ago the main issue was operator related.......

i have 3 hinos, and would reccommend them without hesitation. my brother has new isuzus, and has has issues with gearboxes, electricals and the exhaust burn system. he will be buying hinos as soon as he can. ive only ever had one fuso, it was a good truck for the price, but i much prefer the hinos.

Well ended up with a hino, having the best price for the product and......the old man over ruled me
Apparently 39 yrs isn't old enough to do these things.
In any case 47 000 drive away with a specialist sized tray is really a good offer.

In terms of manual gear changing etc. I'm of the firm belief in this country it's quickly becoming a dead art. Torque strong motors need to driven with that in mind, like the xr6 t i just bought. I saw all the bad reviews about how the drive line shunts and clunks etc from the "car professional" reviewers and it was my wife that convinced me to go manual. Yes it shunts when you drive it like a hi rev range jap car ie: honda civic. It also drives like a bat out of hell when you want it to. Or like a euro car when you use your brain and feather the accelerator between gears. Like my old Dyna with no load. (Ofcourse an exageration it drove like a p.o.s. but 25yrs of work needs to be respected

I sell Kenworth for a living and would buy a Hino every day of the week over a Fuso (the company I work for sells Fuso in Tasmania too, so I shouldn't say that). Irrespective, it's the better small truck....

I work for Star Track too.My Fuso is a great performer as well as bulletproof and reliable. The lone Hino we have at our depot is used as a spare. Nobody seems to like using it for any longer than they have to.

Ironically I beleive Hino just won a contract to supply Startrack with 52 new light duty trucks, I found this interesting because Startrack trucks seem to always be FUSO's I drive a "09" Canter it has had a Engine rebuild under warranty but I suppose there is always going to be the odd dud, just I ended up with it.. other than that it's great little truck comfy and pulls like a train thats with the 3.9lt engine. I don't get thew idea behind reducing capacity to meet regulations when the other big 2 are still 4.0lt i think.

sorry for the necro post but finally picked up my Hino today. After a light unloaded run of 130km I can say with all honesty that its drives better than my 25yr old Dyna ever did . Good enough in-fact that the Mrs was willing to take it for a run around the "block" . However as a work vehicle time will tell..... the digital radio and dvd player as standard well nice but a bit of a ****

not sure about the rest but i have driven a few hinos and i know someone who owns one and i reckon they are a good thing.i think you will be realy happy and i cant see much going wrong with it

Hey Dmat2391 just over 12mths on how is the Hino going?

I am looking to purchase a brand new either the Hino 616 auto Narrow body or the Fuso 515 auto and i am interested in your feedback, as this truck will be driven by every tom dick and harry in our company.

going strong and hasn't had a single warranty issue. The only thing I will say is that the new particulate filter for diesel can be a pain in the backside when it triggers automatically as I pull up home. It is however much cleaner than my old one.A builder client of mine has just upgraded to one and was very happy with their last one that was leased for 5 yrs.
I ended with a manual because of a concern that the new auto tech was still very green for these types of trucks. This could very well be different now ,however.

Had 3 bullet proof Fuso's over last 10 years. Brilliant. Test drove a Hino but it didn't float my boat, also feedback from some of my customers that had owned the Hino's were not real flattering..............

The gearboxes are still awful in them.
We're are also having DPF issues and engine fault light issues.
The mechanic left the fault code report in one of them and it was over a page long.

Oh and the dealer had atleast three dead gearboxes sitting on pallets ready to be picked up.
