I do believe this thread deserves "The Seinfeld Award".
Who honestly cares? These cars have origins in the United States so who gives a tinkers cuss what American car companies call their models. If you want to talk about Australian culture I'll go to town with you, for some reason our youth desire to be African American in the way they dress and talk, I'll agree with you on that but car names? Sheesh. BTW, swearing prolifically is just filler words which are used when the brain is concentrating hard on what words to use, over use of profanity does tend to denote lower intelligence. That said, a carefully placed swear word can be either hilarious or powerful.

Well Falcon is a good enough name for Bentley to use on their new 12 cylinder SUV thats going to go for the Range Rover market. I wonder if it will be called something different in Aus?

The trade mark is due for renewal in 2018, so if Ford doesn't renew it, Bentley can then use the mark. Even if they do, however, by 2019, assuming Ford retires the Falcon nameplate by 2016 and doesn't use it for any other car, Bentley may be able to apply for the Falcon trade mark and to remove Ford's Falcon trade mark for non-use.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest. Why would it bother anyone? Why does a car sold in a different country have to be renamed?

Probably the same reason they rename films eg: Mad Max 2 became The Road Warrior

Couldn't care less.
What should they be called? The Malibu should be the Holden Maroubra Colorado should be called the Holden New South Wales. When someone says Colorado I don't think of the US state, I think of the ute. I prefer cars to be named after things that I don't see everyday. I find Australians either love or hate the US. The ones who hate it don't want to be associated with the place no matter what. |

You and President Obama....
Alaska refers to the rest of us (ignoring Hawaii) as "the lower 48." Look at a WWII-era flag and you'll see 48 stars. Alaska and Hawaii are 49 and 50, although I'm not certain of the order. If we get a 51st state, it will likely be Puerto Rico, and it will be poorer than Mississippi.

If they named them after Australian things, people would complain they are named after the wrong Australian things.
The new Ford Kangaroo should of been called the Ford Koala because we know Ford makes better koalaty cars than Holden. The new Holden Cockatoo flys down the 400 metre drag strip, but that's all it's got going for it. |

to OP: Then it's not just the Americans keeping their badges, the Japanese do it too. How would you feel if your question were reversed and we didn't want Aussie badges sold here? Just a fair question. |
