Looks like the power figures in the hot hatch market have been bumped up again....
The Astra OPC Aided by a twin-scroll turbocharger and intercooler (with maximum charge pressure set 25 per cent higher than in the Insignia 2.0T at 1.5 bar), the result is 206kW of power at 5300rpm and 400Nm of torque between 2400 and 4800rpm, for a 6.0-second 0-100km/h sprint-time and 250km/h top speed. Its weird to see 206kw again. My brain is still preprogrammed to say "yeah right" as it did back in the Japanese power limit days

I'm told the Insignia OPC may be coming to Australia as well (still under evaluation), 2.8 V6 turbo AWD. Would make a very attractive mid size performance sedan if the can get it under 60K.

I bet that HSV would rather be doing this car to expand their range, instead of Opel doing it.

My wife has an Astra twin top. The problems we have had with it are unbelievable for a new car. Power roof, trans cooler, then head gasket.. Its done 30,000 very easy kms and its an 08 model we have had from brand new. Nothing but fully synthetic oil and 95 or 98 fuel. I would hate to see the probs with an extra 80-90KW.

Welcome to the world that is the Holden Astra!. Complete rubbish vehicle, ask any mechanic who has had the displeasure of trying to keep one on the road. Nevertheless im reserving judgement on the latest offerings from Opel as they are a generation ahead of the poo Holden sold here in the 90s and 2000s |

All right, you've caught me napping. I'll go down to Opel in Prahran to see if I can book a drive when they arrive, is anyone away of any faults/issues with the Insignia. A lot of sites I've seen are in German :(

1.5 bar of boost?!
This thing will self destruct 10 times quicker than the non turbo boat anchors from Opel. |

What is that, like 22 psi or there abouts? How does that compare to other boosted cars like Sti or EVO? Isn't the xr6t something like 11psi?

not necessarily the EVO, but a mate of mine has a Ralliart Lancer (the current model, but has had it for a few years now). It was showing 18psi stock when getting the baseline figures on the dyno (before modding it).

The stock boost might be fine and dandy in stock tune although I doubt 21-22psi gives much wriggle room for tuning and we may see some grenade when n00bs hook up a controller. It does seem very high to me and I would say that would be a peak value and it would taper off considerably. Looks like a decent amount of kit though. |
