Ugly, can you elaborate on the compliance issues you had? I would be guessing - Head/tail lights - Door intrusion beams - Child seat restraint anchors - Need a cat in a post-86 car (emissions regs) - Seatbelt mounts possibly Also you'd need a new radio I believe if you want to get AM stations at least.
no cat required, but emission test required
but had to replace ALL seat belts,
child restraints added
intrusion bars added
no problems with head light/tail lights and mine has been converted to BMW headlights.
tyres ok
brake lines had to be changed due to the fact i had braided on also didn't have any problem with having discs all round
stearing column nearly had to be changed due to being one piece but they got round that some how (didn't ask how)
radio stays original no problems there
that was about it,
my biggest problem is finding a seat belt that would work verticaly,(and Still looking for that one)

Thanks for the feedback Ugly, it is interesting the differences between here and overseas. Eg all Australian cars have had side intrusion bars since ~1976, and collapsible steering columns from ~1972-73 - I find it hard to imagine that the latter were not in place in Europe in the 1980's!

Yeah i know i thought it wold have had a collapsable column but i think they got round it because of the steering box but nott too sure. may have just been lucky.
i imported a capri 280 build #6
now comes the exspensive part rebuilding to to concourse state
the speedo never came into it!

If youīre talking about my bronze-coloured Cossie, then no, it isnīt licensed in WA yet, havenīt owned it for a year yet so havenīt tried to import it as a personal import, but Iīll look into it in June/July...

I think it may pay to double check your info - I wasn't aware of personal imports being permitted when you don't reside in the country of origin for those 12 months? Also the 15 year rule has been abolished - there is now a flat year cut-off - 1989 from memory. Cars produced after 1989 are regulated as to what is permitted in and not. If you can import the car as a personal import, you can get around this, but if not, you will need to determine if the car can be complied for Australian roads.

If you still had the white one and providing it could be imported into Australia legally, it could have been registered for the road as a "rally car" - I have a few acquaintances with caged cars and legal West Australian registration

Iīve only read abit online about personal imports, since Iīm still "written" in Sweden as a resident it shouldnīt be a problem hopefully.
The biggest problem with getting it to Australia will probably be the massive power it produces.. It doensīt look stock under the bonnet and it runs on E85...
