Default GT40 or GT50

Quick question.
Is the new US ford gt supercar called a gt40 or gt50?

Just the Ford GT. They no longer own the rights to the name GT40.

Prototype showcar was called the GT40, until they realised they didnt own the name.
There was also the GT90 back in the 90s

Dont think so, the original name was due to the car being 40 inches high. I think the new one is 44 inches high by memory, so if anything a GT44!

They sold the rights to the name. They wanted to buy them back when they released the new one, but the owners wanted too much money, hence why it's Ford GT.

As well as the GT90, there was also a GT70 with very few built

Closer to the mark is that the original race car was officially called the Ford GT too. The GT40 name was invented by the media and it stuck, but registration of the name came much later by a company named Safir who by then were also the owners of the design and manufacturing tools. Incidentally, Safir continued building "new" GT40s and you can still buy a GT40 MkV from them to this day.

So the bottom line is that the name was never actually owned by Ford at all. Furthermore, Safir claim that Ford had never even officially negotiated to buy the name, let alone have a chance to reject it on price.
