Default Territory SR2

Ford Australia has released a new limited edition Territory model, the Territory SR2, ahead of next week's Australian International Motor Show in Sydney.

The introduction of the new Territory SR2 follows the success of the Territory SR model line over recent years, with limited edition models in 2006, 2007 and 2008 all delivering exceptional value-for-money, as well as exclusivity, to SUV customers.

"The unique Territory SR models have been a popular addition to our SUV line-up since they were first introduced in 2006," said Ford Australia Vice President Marketing and Sales, Beth Donovan.

"The new Territory SR2 continues our special value pack tradition by providing customers with an extensive list of extra features, on top of the Territory's already comprehensive equipment package.

"With $5,645^ worth of extra value at no additional cost, including the luxury of a rear DVD system to keep the family entertained on long trips, the Territory SR2 will be introduced with a recommended retail price of $37,990* for the rear-wheel drive variant.

"However, for a limited time, the Territory SR2 RWD will be available for the recommended offer price of $36,990*, which is a truly amazing deal that improves the value equation for customers by a further $1,000."

On sale from October 1, the new Territory SR2 is based on the Territory TX and is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations.

The exterior of the Territory SR2 is enhanced with stylish seven-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels, a unique 'SR2' badge and a full body colour pack, including bumpers and door cladding.

It will also be available in two new exterior paint colours – Seduce and Sensation – which were previously reserved for the premium Territory Ghia, Turbo and Ghia Turbo models.

Inside there is an equally impressive list of bonus features, including an Alpine DVD system for rear seat passengers with a 10.2-inch screen, remote control and two sets of wireless headphones.

A unique sports leather trim pack is also part of the SR2 package, featuring partial leather seat trim, leather wrapped steering wheel, leather wrapped gearshift and handbrake cover, and colour-matched centre console lid and door trims, all in a Warm Charcoal finish.

Cruise control is also fitted as standard equipment, incorporating easy-to-use steering wheel-mounted buttons, to complete the SR2 package.

The recommended retail price for the all-wheel drive Territory SR2 variant is $42,990.

Geez, this is Great value. SR Territories always sell well, especially in the popular colours, and this one will be no different.

Still don't know why people drive a heavy SUV? Holden thinks their Commodor Sport Wagon will win back the SUV buyers. Ford should really get their acts together and do something.

They are looking very VERY old these days.... Only made to look worse by Ford Photography and crap colour. Wow what a desirable vehicle that looks like, least black or white or something eye catching would have been better.

Sad, I love territories, and think Ford need to pay more attention to them, and modernise them as the base is brilliant.

As with most SR models from Ford, excellent value for money. Put in some of your own extras, work on the old dealer and you've got a crazy good value family car. The territory still gets the job done despite its age, and cars like this should keep Ford's end up in this SUV market for the next little while.

No matter what version, the territory is still one of the best drives in the segment bar none.....whenever i drive one after a long time i am pleasantly surprised how a car that heavy can drive that well.

I'm more interested to be honest in the updated territory due next year....does anyone know what is happening this this? When will it debut and how extensive the changes styling/interior/mechanical???

Go drive one and live with it day to day. Then come back with an educated opinion. I know several people who have traded Territories on another excellent option, the VW Passat TDI Wagon and every one of them has missed the Territory. "Good honest practical vehicle, if it had a diesel...or LPG even, then we'd have stuck with Territory again. Yes it could definitely use an update though, if only so that the people changing over lease vehicles feel they aren't just buying the same again.

SR sold really well for us. We just sold out last week. I wish 7 seats seats were standard in SR2! It made it so easy to order. Kashmir is the colour, and it sells pretty well? I don't see anything wrong with it? Its ALWAYS Ego, Black, White or Silver. That is all thats on the road these days! The wheels are standard Territory optional wheels, but they are not dark like the last SR's wheels.

Don't get me wrong, Territory handles very well consider it being a SUV, probably only BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne handle better. The point is that most of the city owners hardly ever need a heavy SUV apart from intimidate other road users or taking up two parking space at the supermarket car parks. Like all large SUVs, they block the views of drivers behind them, just like driving behing a truck or van. In a survey, most female drivers of large SUVs said that they can see better in the traffic when driving a large SUV, but if everyone drives one, it is back to square one. There are many other passenger cars can function as well if not better than a SUV in city, I think it is mostly about fashion and trend but inconvenient other road users.

Nope. Doesn't.

My Territory was far better to drive than the X5 is. All the X5 has going for it is the V8 and Six Speed Auto. Oh, and build quality (at over twice the list price for a Territory Ghia AWD).

I should have waited for my lease to run out if my source is correct. 111 (New Territories code name) will be released at the Melbourne Motor Show.

I have to agree you 300C-CRD, I don't get city SUV's either. A humble station wagon will do 98% of what an SUV will, bar light off-roading and maybe a third row of seats in the back.

It's definately a fashion/trend thing - it happened in the US first (soccer mums), and then spilt over to our market.

I get why they do. A Territory TX RWD is the same RRP as a BFIII Falcon XT Wagon. You get rear power windows, IRS, DSC, better visability, a much nicer ride, a better looking vehicle and a rear end that doesn't evolve from an AU falcon. Most Territories on the road a RWD, not AWD. Sorry to say, more people are buying Territories as the family car instead of a falcon sedan, and I don't blame them. Can't wait until the next model Territory. Just because you live in the city doesn't mean you have to try and fit the family into a Corolla.

Absolutely correct. I replaced my Commodore (my last 5 company/lease cars were Commodores) with a RWD Territory for better space and better comfort. The fuel economy is the same and the better visibility is a bonus. I used to feel the same way as 300C-CRD about SUVs, but it's all relative: can the guy driving the Mini see past your larger sedan or can I see past an ugly Vito from my Territory?

If you transport elderly people (like grandparents) they much prefer sliding into an SUV, rather than having to fall down into and climb out of Sedan. Also they dont have the high sill panels that most sedans have nowadays, which can also be a challenge for elderly people.
Also its easier for parents putting young children into the seats of an SUV, you are not bending over holding a heavy child.

Although after spending time in a Tarago, it would make a better family car, flat floor, 8 seats and heaps of room (way more than any SUV). Its a pity they are so overpriced and underpowered. Even at $10k cheaper they are still expensive (especially compared to a $37k Territory)

^^
The operating costs of the Tarago and Voyager are also astronomical. A RWD TX Teritory has a lower operating cost than a Toyota Prius (cost of fuel is only a component of overall operating cost).

Are you sure? We have the E70 3.0SD with the sports executive pack and 20" rims, and it handles like an absolute knife through butter. As for the drive, It's quiet, powerful, fast, and so flat around corners it isn't funny. Granted, the Run Flats make the ride a touch bumpy, however overall, it is a VERY comfortable and well (no BRILLIANT) handling car. Very Impressive. having driven both an AWD and RWD Territory with the 6 speed auto, I admit, very impressive handler and very comfortable. The dynamics EASILY compare to the X5 and is a credit to Ford's development. However, are they better? Maybe than your e53, but I'd take the keys to the 3.0SD any day over one of them badge snobbery aside.
