I was wondering if anybody had accurate 0-100 times for older Commodores and Falcons eg. VL Executive, VS Executive, VT Executive, AU Forte, EL GL, XE GL.
I was looking at 0-100 times for different cars on redbook and they don’t seem correct. My Fairmont was given a 0-100 time of 8.4 but I have been getting times around 7.8. Also apparently a base model EL is faster than a base model AU which doesn’t seem to make sense as the AU is lighter and more aerodynamic. The VT Executive is also rated faster than the VS Executive which a doesn’t seem right as they have the same V6 and the VT is 200kg heavier. Also is redbook correct in saying that the late 90’s Mitsubishi lancer does 0-100 in 10.4 seconds because if it’s true that’s fruckin hilarious. |

QUOTE] My first car was an EL GLi and I now I have an AUII forte, and the EL is deffinently faster off the mark. I think that its something to do with fuel economy, not sure though. I'v got a book on the history of falcons and it has a performance section for each model. I cant remember 0-100 times but i remember that it said the EL does the quater mile in 16.2 and the AU does it in 16.3. If I can find the book i'll put up the 0-100 times for you. |

I think XR6 HP does 0-100 in about 7.8 but the XR6 VCT was a few tenths slower due to the extra weight of the IRS. Those times would be true of the Ghia as well since it has the XR6 VCT engine. But the extra weight of the luxury equipment would slow it down more. Do you have any mods on your car? I remember reading that the EF XR6 manual tested by wheels did 0-100 in 7.8 and the XR8 did it in 8.0. Try old copies of Wheels or Motor or other car mags. Might find some in a library some where. And that sounds about right for a mid to late 90s 4 pot. Most were in the 9s and 10s even the 12s for some of the very small cars.

Bet Motor got from an EL XR6 was 0-100 7.55 and 400m 15.26. AU XR6 HP was slightly slower.

The gearing was great fun, so much so i dusted a new vp ss or hsv not sure, twice by a couple of car lengths one night. The lights were only a few hundred metres apart so 3rd gear and it was all over. They were a very light car so power to weight plus low gearing made it quick in its day. The car would have pulled 8sec to 100kph i reckon.

I think it was a thing of the late 90's that all small cars's got really slow.
The 1991 KF Laser was the fastest with all Lasers after it being pathetically slow. Only now are small cars getting fast again as Turbos come back in fashion. Oi I wonder why we never got the Chevrolet Cobalt SS as a Holden Cobalt or something I played it on need for speed pretty sick and I read the stats and it came with a supercharged fourbanger. I Also what's faster a VT supercharged commodore or a AU XR6. |

What about the 4AGE Corollas and the VTEC Civics. Both of these cars will blow away similar aged v8's off the line.

Commodores simply have the wrong six just like Falcons have the wrong eight.
The Commodore engine since the first have always been built for another car. The 202ci were from a different era and were not updated since the 60's. The RB30 was built for Nissan Skylines. The Ecotec was a Buick design. The current Alloytec is a global engine designed for light front wheel drive vehicles in markets that don't value torque very highly. So what has happened as always happens is that the Commodore gets heavier and the engine is carried over so the car gets more sluggish. The Falcon is lucky in that the engine is designed specifically for the car thus there is ample torque and power to accomodate the large and hefty weight. I found that the Ecotec worked well in the VS but when carried over to the VT it equalled absolute torture to drive and it's happening all over again with the already torque lacking alloytec carried over to the heavier VE |

The old VL`s pulled a 9.2 which isnt bad.
A mates VP Commodore is a thrash car and has a 5spd and it beat many VXs and even chomps up VU-VY Spack utes with manual boxes. Funny thing is i have a VC commodore ATM Blue 202 Auto. Factory specs say 0-100 in 13seconds...I have a rooted motor with screwed valves no compression and i got a 11.7 so when i first got it i rekon it was in the 10`s VTEC is great my mate had a 89 CRX VTEC the box model. With a crap exhaust and a dfilthy filthy pod it did a 15.2 1/4 and a 6.7 0-100kph... He recently bought a 93 model DelSel CRX 1.6 VTEC out of the box it did 0-100 7.5seconds and no it has a chip, exhaust, extractors and a few other funny bits and its crazy so i would estimate it mid 6`s now. VTEC is mind blowing. And the things you can do to them are endless
