Recalls can be or or a bad thing for a potential customer. Bad because they might have to replace constant things and good because the company is recognizing problems and they are dealt with accordingly, which might bring about peace of mind.

So the VE has hiccups, so does every new model. Still hasn't slowed down sales though.

The VE is a very good car, just like the BA was when it was first brought out. Holden have the following and the finish to boot, i hate to say it but from my experience it seems Holden have a little more knowledge about quality control, which will haunt Ford with the next model unless they take some strategic steps to sort it.

My mum has a VT and she sees nothing wrong with it. I can tell her all day how bad the ride is and how bad the shift is but to her we've had a flat battery and the "link pins" replaced and thats about it. It's only us as enthusiasts that see more into the drive of a car that knows any different.

A povo pack is not targeted to our market and therefore you cant expect it to perform to our market. They are meant for the average joe and jane who does nothing more with their car other than the A to B driving and the occasional C.

Sure it's nice to exceed expectations, but fact is these things are still selling no matter how dinosaur they may seem to us.

I really like Holdens approach on the VE. You can see a visual difference inside and out between models.

I believe that the one that got away in this country during the same time as the Pinto was the VH-CM Chrysler Valiant. They were notorious for collapsing front seats especially during accidents. Chrysler were only too well aware of this problem but decided that it could potentially bankrupt the Australian ops(which was close to bankruptcy already) if they sparked a recall.

In the past, I have seen these already collapsed front seats being support by jamming the spare wheel behind the front seat and the back seat. Heaven knows what would happen to the occupant in an accident when there is little or no solid seat support to help pin you to your seat.

My 1974 Holden HJ Prem 308 (my first car) - had the most doodgy seat of all cars I have owned. The drivers seat had not collapsed are anything it (its just that as you sit in your car with your seat on a slight recline - it sat back a good inch more on one side rather than staright as it should be) also had a little play in it. But im sure the seats of early 1970's Australian manufactured cars & others have got alot better over time.

Holden spent close to a billion dollars and what? 7 years on designing the VE.
i would hope that it is a good car.
but to me, that are an ugly looking car. and the front reminds me of a BA.

It's a large stretch still, Some similarity's but still far enough apart.
I mean i can sit and look here and say the BA XR bumper has a slight VT HSV look. Larger fogs open grill toss some VY headlights and VZ bonnet and bingo similar.
But honestly in the flesh when you see them even the lights go from similar shape and look, Too not as close as you first think, My brother had his BA next too the VE i had and it's hard too say just remove the VE lights and stick them on the BA. There not the shame shape and are much larger.
