Default Has the Bulge become RICE ?

With several threads moving around regarding the Bulge, no one can doubt it is one of the best mistakes ever made by ford.

But has it come to a point where it can be deemed a RICE ( Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhacement ) Mod ?

In a lot of cases it may have become exactley that where people are putting them on their car just because it is the in thing to do ( and that is their choice / not taking sides here )

There are a few modded cars that carry the aggots to in some way justify their bulge but in the main there are many cars that could not pull the skin of custard fitting up the bulge, this in itself must feel in some way a let down to the owner, with a feeling similar to stuffing a pair socks down thier pants before going out for the night, it might have a bulge but it must be a real let down if it was ever asked to perform.

Would it not be better that these guys put the dollars towards some go fast bits, or is it all show n no go.?

Well, I've seen a couple of XR6Ts with XR8's bonnets and I was like "what's going on here?"

On an XR8 it's fine but on an XR6T it's like the Spinal Tap heavy metal parody - like sticking a piece of garden hose down the front of your leather pants :P

I prefer bulges on Boss engined cars. They are there for a reason. And they are symbolic. Rice? I dunno about that. I reckon if the car has the balls, then it can carry it off.

Each to their own I guess. I wouldnt do it. And I would certainly rather spend my hard earned on "go fast" mods rather than "look like I go fast mods". That is just my personal preference.

I remember them on TC TD Cortina sixes. I have been told they were just for looks and many owners fitted 4 cylinder bonnets in their place.

Bulge is a awesome looking bonnet, with company's now making just the bulge in fibreglass for $130 we are seeing them grafted on all types of cars, to me to copy or imitate something is a form of flattery.
If putting a bulge on 6 cylinder Falcon is RICE well I am joining the RICER brigade.
I purchased a bulged bonnet for $400 just waiting for it to be painted.
Photoshop of how I want my ricer too look...LOL..

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery............

I don't mind seeing the bulge on other lesser FORDS..........it has become the "shaker" of our time.

If they start grafting fluoros and flutes into it.........then its definitely RICE CITY................... :

It is RICE on just about anything else - the exception being a modified car that needs the headroom. I don't think RICE is a bad thing, but it is what it is. The ironing board on the back of my GT is RICE - the only difference to other RICE is it's factory fitted RICE.

Bulge, bodykit, wheels, stickers etc etc etc are available for personal taste. I draw the line at trying to represent a car as something it's clearly not by putting words on the car to define it. This whinge really only runs into newer cars where there is no need for replica's as the real deal is in abundance and the character of time has yet to take it's effect.

If it wasn't for RICE, we'd all be driving XT's with a Boss, Brembo's, widened steelies - and a Bulge. Which is kinda cool too.

mmmm tough one to answer as i'd love one for my s2 au... however i really hate them on commonwhores..... maybe i just hate commos?.... my good mate owns an xc and has the same problem with the xc vented bonnet- around here they're on everything from jags to landcruisers.

overall i hate when people get the bonnet and full gt kit (badges and all) and fit it to an xt, trying to be a gt, same with all the fake hsv's i see around.

Actually if I was rich enough, I'd buy every commy with a Ford bulge, take the bulge off and burn the rest.

I have seen them on XD's VR commodores, and most of the time they suit the look of the car, i have at stages considerd putting one on my XT, just for looks!

Rice? yes, but definately not as bad as some forms of rice, its a good rice, if that makes sense?

I've got no problems seeing the bulge on other Fords that NEED them for bonnet clearance. There's a few heavily modded A, E and X series getting around with the extra bonnet clearance provided by the bulge.

But seeing them on Commodores is sacrilege. Anyone put VZ Monaro scoops onto a Falcon?

Mine's real and needed = NICE (not RICE).

I know 2 guys with them on their VZ commodores and they look pretty good, but the best thing is that it covers their 3.3 ltr superchargers, do you call 500 + rwkw cars rice because of a bulge?

I guess it would be like putting a shaker, on a 250 Xflow Fairmont.

However I think it's a symbolic thing, and should stay on Boss powered cars.

RICE is ref to an enhancement (singular), a Ricer or RICE car is when the whole thing is cosmeticly enhanced only, so for me, there is no such thing as a 500rwkw Ricer.

wheels not rice as you need them to clear the massive Brembo's
wing+kit not rice as at track speeds they provide useful aero. Sure on the street/highway you can't (*cough* shouldn't) go fast enough to benefit.

And yeah, no stripes, makes the whole car look more aggressive. I think the stripes detract from the aggressiveness of the car.

On a ricer, they are a rice bubble!

Bulge=Rice
T3 Kit=Rice
T3 XR Front=Rice
Stripes=Rice

I think I have all base covered.

Seriously, I don't know why this really upsets people. At the end of the day, these are cars. Forms of transport. Not life and death. Maybe I don't see what all the fuss is about as to me, my car is just a car, and until you guys start taking up a collection for me to pay for any of my mods, if they make it and it fits, then I'll have it.

I do find these threads interesting. I think this is the reason why I hate judging and trophies at care shows. It's all irrelevant as beauty is in the eye of the beholder. No, I don't consider my car beautiful.
