Record sales of Territory and Fiesta and continued strong Falcon sales during December contributed to Ford Australia celebrating the end of 2004 with 135,172 retails - its best total sales result since 1995.
This resulted in a total year market share of 14.2%, up 0.3pts over the prior year. This represented Ford's second year in a row of market share growth. December sales of 12,436 vehicles gave the company its equal highest monthly market share for 2004 at 15.7%, an increase of 2.0 percentage points over December 2003. "2004 was a fantastic year for Ford Australia," said Ford Australia President, Tom Gorman. "Our strong sales increased our market share even further over 2003, within a rapidly growing vehicle market. "Territory and Fiesta have been particularly successful. In only eight months on sale, Territory has sold 13,583 vehicles - 2,184 of them in December - taking out the title of Top Selling SUV six months in a row along the way. "Fiesta reached a monthly high in December, with 481 vehicles sold, which brought its yearly total to 3,930. When you combine these sales figures with Australia's Best Car Awards for Territory, Fiesta and Falcon, and the Courier Mail Car of the Year Award for Territory, it's obvious that these are the right vehicles in the market at the right time," said Gorman. Falcon passenger finished the year with strong December sales of 5,608, bringing the yearly total to 65,384 vehicles. "Importantly for our business here in Australia, we sold a total of 101,279 locally produced vehicles during 2004," said Gorman. "This is the highest number of locally produced sales in Ford Australia's history and is 5.7% more than during 2003." Focus also finished 2004 on a high, achieving a December record of 1,032 sales, bringing its yearly sales figures to a record high of 12,565. Other vehicles in the Ford range also had a strong finish to the year. Courier had its best total sales result on record, with 7,077 vehicles sold, while Falcon Ute (20,123 vehicles) and Escape (3,252 vehicles), achieved their second best total sales results on record. |

Good to see. And even better to see the Focus is now selling much better. I've noticed a lot of them around lately too.
As for Terri's, they are EVERYWHERE and I love it.

Yes all good news, although Escape needs to pick up the pace alittle.
I wonder how FPV went for the year especially compared to 2003. |

I hear from a number of sources that Territory sales are eating into Falcon sales, which is hardly surprising really.
The Falcon Wagon will certainly dissapear in the not too distant future. Not sure were that will leave fleet sales, with the likes of Telstra currently under contract with Ford to supply their wagons. The higher running costs of the Terry may well leave them with no other option but to go back to Comodore wagons.

Hurry up the Turbo 6 version, not sure when its due, but should be soon. That wiill provide the model line with a "hero car" that will really be good for its image. I also with they would do a V8 version. They really *should*.

I think Ford recently stated the Wagon will still go on in the next model as sales are still strong after the Territory's release.

The Focus is I believe the only confirmed 'updated model' from Ford. I believe in October there is a good chance FPV will release a right hand drive Mustang but it's not confirmed yet.

Falcon down 8000 from last year
Where have those buyers gone? Hopefully the Territory isnt responsible..(or maybe fortuanatly as they would have bought Prados/Landcruisers?) Commodore down a similar amount too...

Total locally built and sold for 2004/ 2003
Ford 101280 95967 +5313 Holden 111313 112155 - 842 Toyota 45940 42604 +3336 Mitsubishi 15968 23666 -7698 Total local built and sold for December 04/ Dec 03 Ford 9757 8379 +1378 Holden 8808 8977 - 169 Toyota 4867 4073 + 794 Mitsubishi 1410 1660 - 250 Mitsubishi Aust. is looking very sad. Also interesting to note without Territory Ford would also look ordinary. Despite what some people say about Territory being just another SUV, its importance is very obvious. This was inevitable. I predict, for as long as Terry is around (which will basicially be forever) Falcon sales will never reach their previous heights.

If the trend continues Ford Aust should sell approx. 111000 locally built cars in 2005.
And I agree Territory is partially responsible for the decline in Falcon sales, but overall Territory is very good for Ford. |

The only downside I can see, is that perhaps, with declining Falcon sales, Ford may not invest as heavily in future Falcon models, thus handing the large sedan category to Holden on a platter.

Or it could go this way: They simplify the model range and concentrate more on the models they leave which will include XR's. But it's still to early to say what will happen to Falcon.

I wonder how long Australias love affiar with SUV's will last? Is it a passing fad? Personally, they don't appeal to me at all, but certainly I'm in the apparent minority.

Ford sold more locally built vehicles that Holden in December by abour 500 units. So much for Holden being the Australian company. All that product sharing and niche marketing, Ford just sticks to one which outsells every Commodore variant combined (adventra/crewman/monaro etc) and profits hugely. So more cars, more money, better future!!!

all well and good, but it takes more than 1 month of outselling them.....gotta do it consistently
and they have the ability to produce more cars than ford can at the moment.... |
