hey all just wanting to reach out im about to start a rebuild on my boss 290 xr8 its my first rebuild so im excited and nervous at the same time any advice or tips where to start? also im located in newcastle nsw is there any car clubs i can join around the area?

Have you stripped it yet to determine what needs replacing and machining ? Are you doing the heads as well - Heads Shaved, valve grind and/or Guides etc ? Apart from the obvious Rings & Bearings, make sure you replace the Timing Chain & Tensioners, and high volume Oil Pump - only with quality parts! Your 2 most important tools are a Micrometer and a Torque Wrench Make sure you do a thorough soak and clean (Diesel works well) of all components, and make sure your work environment is absolutely Dust Free (Spotless!) Good luck with it !
