Hi guys, this is my first post. I have an old (well everybody calls it an old car but it looks a million dollars, its painted in mercury silver) that colour you see on a lot of BA Ghias. Anyway its a 500kw S/C BA GT with the ancient BTR 4 speed. I have read so many comments about how much better the six speed is. But my car goes from 100--200 in 7 seconds, who the hell needs a ZF when my car hits 4th gear at 200 kph in sequential mode. Anyway i have had my rant. Also i know a few people with an FG 2 GT . They all call my car an old bomb. I dont get it. Just because its old does'nt mean its ready for the scrap heap. Its only done 80,000 km, and only 5,000 since been S/C by Bluepower.

They just say crap like that cos their Jealous .... plain and simple.
Ignore them. Simple. The BTR ... if built well ... cant be made pretty strong indeed ... and less cogs is more suited to boost anyway IMHO. Post up some pics of it.

There's not a lot wrong with the BTR's. Mines unopened at 350,oookm, still hunting roos off the road.
They can also be built to cop big torque. The swap from BTR to ZF was to improve fuel economy in the BF initially.

Yes same here turbo BTR 4speed with 350 000km, it has a trans tune so it shifts nice and firm, also still runs the original trans cooler in the radiator with an inline external cooler mounted in front. Drives very well and I believe the car has around 270-280rwkw.

Great shifting tranny with the only negative being the slow 2-3 shift... Just programmed this way to protect the planetries from torque shock. |

Drive a zf equipped car and you will se why people rave about them.
Nothing wrong with a well looked after btr, but a zf just does just about everything better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

First thing i did was get a new radiator. I have heard to many horror stories about how the trans cooler inside the radiator corrodes (poor crimping, welding, who knows ) and the trans being destroyed by the radiator coolant. So now should be right for another 8 years. The radiator specialist i went to could not believe that ford knew about the problem but kept using the same supplier for 13 years. I forget there name but its delco or something like that. I starts with a D, thats what i am sure of.

I have a built BTR in my NL 5.0 and it's great, but that tall first gear sucks. The ZF in my G6ET is much better though. Much better spread of ratios, short first gear and taller 6th for economy on the highway. Smooth as silk. Just does everything better. |

I was on one forum and all they raved on about was super cars. How boring. They run a control engine and frame. The Super car mustang looks nothing like the real thing.

For heavy traffic driving I do rate the ZF better .... 1st gear is nice and short .... I barely touch the brakes in crawling traffic .... the engine braking is great at those speeds.
It's too short for wet weather take-offs though ... but I manually select 2nd for that ... and it's just like the BTR 1st gear. and 6th gear is good on the highway .... allows me to get down to 6L/100km average.

2 All the people who put me down for owning a BA (actually it must be the only BA i know of that was first registered in 2006) I think your FG GT looks like a space ship.

Why worry? If the car is making you pleased to own and drive, it’s doing a good job.
