"WHILE the average car would have clocked up 300,000km during the last 14 years, this ute has only done 100km.
The 1971 Falcon XY CS has been in storage since 1998 bar a handful of outings to keep things ticking over. The ute has been used so little that owner Tim Ryan found the undercarriage was spotless when it was put on a hoist last weekend. "The only speck of dirt I could find was on the exhaust, one speck," he said. Mr Ryan bought the car from a mate 14 years ago, fulfilling a long-held dream to own an XY Falcon. "I was a real Ford fan. That 1971, everyone says they were the best cars ever built, the XY Falcon sedan. They say they are the muscle car of Australia - even Holden people say that," he said. "I saw it was a ute and that was close enough. It was so nice, so much work had been put into it." Tim Ryan's 1971 Ford Falcon XY CS ute has a full performance Ford racing motor. Mr Ryan said the ute's paint job alone had cost the previous owner $20,000. The car was such as show-piece that Mr Ryan could barely bring himself to drive it. "It's absolutely immaculate. It's been in a container, covered up, let out a couple of times a year. I reverse it out and start it. It's had three batteries in 10 years. The batteries just ear out because it doesn't get used," he said. "It's not the sort of car you drive down to the shops." On a rare outing, the car soon grabs attention. "My son was driving it a few years ago and the cops pulled him over just to have a look at it," Mr Ryan said. After a $20,000 paint job, the Falcon has spent the last 14 years in storage. He is no longer able to continue storing it as its current location and he does not want to bring it home to Mooloolaba, where it will be exposed to the sea air. He hopes a collector will take a shine to it but there is one catch to selling it. "I'm going to have to work it out but I can't let anyone test drive it," he said." http://www.themorningbulletin.com.au...103365/?ref=hs

So much I don’t understand.
“Average” car 300,000 kms in 14 years ? and 14 years since 1998 is not today. How many kms before the $20,000 paint job ? Why have a car like that, and not drive it ? Don’t want to drive it, sell it to some-one who will use it. Is this the future for the last of the FGX XR6s / XR8s / Sprints, hidden in sheds ? |

Strange way to describe the car
Makes little sense to me, so how many km's has it done?? Why worry about the milage on a car that basically is not an original car anyway?? Doesn't want to test drive it as he does not want to clock up the km's makes no sense, if he is selling anyway for someone else. Seems to be written by someone who knows little to nothing about classic cars. Very rare XY CS with the big 361

Would like to know what's involved in a $20k paint job on half a car.
So it has done 100ks since the race motor was put in? Nothing about numbers matching so all i can tell is it is a ute which had some work done on it and is basically a ute showcar. |

Adjusting for inflation, $20k would've been about right for a good paint job back in '98. $20k wouldn't get you much these days. It's hard to tell the condition of the paintwork from these photos though.

When I first read this I thought it was going to be a factory original vehicle that had been put away from new.
Obviously it is not. Even from the photo you can see so many things that are not factory original, so it's just another resto jobbie, that's maybe done only 100km since resto. |

Particularly one that has sit for 14 years or whatever and the owner wont allow it to be test driven. God knows what's wrong with it.

No interior photos anywhere.
It would be interesting to see how original it is inside as there have been a few changes to the exterior and engine bay.

Even IF it is a ridgy didge... the restoration he or whovever's done has degraded it. Didn't have a clue.... If not already, think will be a huge talking point on other Ford GT club sites etc.

35k 40 if he's lucky. He think's it's a 1 of 1 untouched K-code rather than the custom that it is. If it was in average condition but restored to original, yeah. Looks solid though so who knows.
That article has devalued it if anything. Brilliant plan that was. |

Personally I think the owner does not have a clue of what he has or knows anything about classic Falcons.
He is still calling it a XY CS Now looking at the engine bay he is calling the engine a 'Full Performance Ford Racing Motor', I think he has just looked at the 'Ford Racing' rocker covers and thinks its a 'Ford Racing Motor' If it's automatic why does it have a clutch master cylinder

In saying all that, it's still a clean car, but far from original and far from something that can't be test driven to keep the KM's low.
It does look like a 90's Street Machine type restoration with all the colour coded bits and engine block and wheels etc

What a non story.
Amazing how you can spin anything you like to a local rag and end up in print.

What sort of $20k paint job also sprays the brake booster and wiper motor.
Too lazy to mask up or remove?
