Hi guys,
I know it's not a holden forum but for something different I'm considering looking for a twin turbo ve ss. Has anyone driven one? Wondering how they compare to a xr6t. |

I haven't driven one but a well known tuner in NSW took me for a ride in a customers VX GTS with a Gen TT kit installed.
It sounded like jet taking off every time the boost came on and the scenery turned into a blur. Still had the V8 rumble at lower revs which was then drowned out by turbo scream as boost came on. I think it was somewhere around 400rwkw and even though I've had 4 modified turbo Falcons none of them were making that much power so I can't really compare. The noise in the GTS was definitely better. I was impressed! |

Thanks heaps Sioso. That sounds like what I'm after. I love the v8 sound and love how turbos sound as well so sounds like it would be the best of both worlds. My old xr6t with 310 rwkw was a really fun car to drive the way it come on boost and hit hard. Never been too into holdens but this could be a fun change for a while. There is one I want to look at but its hours away and I just need to find time.

G'day all...Brings me to ask is there a technical reason why our V8 is supercharged , not turbocharged ?
The Stang is capable of being turbo'ed I believe. Got to say though , it'd take a lot of impressing me to go away from the super'ed Coyote 5.0 or the turbo'ed Barra but if a General V8 with a snail thing or blower does it for you , I hope you find a good 'un that you'll have a ball with..Good hunting...Cheers Rod. |

In something like a boat where you are in boost 99% of the time they are a brilliant engine.

It can be done ... but from the Factory perspective the superchrger is a neater package ... and the drivability as mentioned before too.

I know an air con guy who put twin turbos on his ve 2 malloo. Can't tell you how good they go once run in as he had to sell it for a 7 seat Prado before it was run in due to upcoming family constraints, but taking it easy on the thing, all I hear was it was a bullet. It was apparently the 800kw kit with the obligatory built motor and cost a bomb. The malloos budget friendly work replacement of a hilux seems kind of limp wristed

Not much room under a ford falcon v8 Bonnet. Turbos and their plumbing would be a huge headache and create so much heat.
Supercharger sits right between the V, like a hand in a glove. Great packaging. Provides just as much benefit as turbo for factory complianced car as well as they would only ever run moderate boost. |

I had a VE sedan with twin turbo setup with water injection and upgraded fuel system, injectors exhuast etc to suit.
Conservative boost made a tad over 415 rwkw. was fun to drive as you could lose traction at around 80 - 100km/h but was also very sedate if you wanted it to be. Looked standard and was nice and quiet. Fuel economy improved quite a bit if taking it easy. Sold mine due to boost pipes blowing off all the time and it just gave me the *****. Much happier with the fgx xr8 .. not as much power but has the ability to put the power to the ground and therefore a tad quicker at normal speeds. The VE pulled like a train when the boost kicked in and just kept on going. |

Thanks heaps guys. I also have an fgx xr8 sprint and being a sprint I don't really want to modify it. I also miss the feeling of a turbo. There seems to be heaps more room in a ve engine bay that's for sure. Would have been fantastic if they did a twin turbo from factory with the xr8.

If someone was selling 5g turbo kits for v8 falcons like the entry level goat kits there would be boatloads of them around.

For city driving and a daily driver I preferred my BF F6, lighter over the the front and more nimble, the VE had brass button twin plate clutch not very friendly to Sydney's traffic congestion. From Autotech Granville website http://www.autotechengineering.com.a...Commodore.html

Driven a single turbo which I liked the drivability of. Been for a ride in a twin and it was a bit more manic and a touch more torquey imo. I'm sure the manicness can be tuned out or related to the cam too but turbo Holden V8's are good things! Must be backed by a turbo400 imo though.

The cheapest factory twin turbo v8 must be the C63?
you can get a 2015 model for around $160K. 380KW 500NM 4 sec car.

The C63S as sold in Australia is 375kW and 700Nm with a 4 sec 1-100. Even the old base N/A models started with 600Nm. It plus the 255 wide rears on the last model is the reason they get out of shape so easily when the traction is switched off. |

I had my VE Ute twin turboed in 2007 after driving a couple and thinking they were such a rush.
It was a manual with the turbos mounted under the engine which made for a very stealthy look but I found the power delivery to be severe. As there is far more tuning knowledge with them these day that problem has possibly been rectified to some extent and as much as it pains me to say, an Auto may also be a better way to go. At the time it was also a cheaper alternative to a supercharger. I’m sorry I sold it but unless you want to impress with a big output number I’d prefer to go with a blower these days as they offer very streetable power and if you’re not taking it racing who is really going to care which delivers the most power. Personally I love and prefer the slower N/As with noticeable cams but they can be so in your face. |
