Default 2018 Commondog

http://www.caradvice.com.au/462416/2...panels/?plista

Looks like the Opel Insignia will replace the Commodore. Still wondering why they will disgrace the name by putting it on a FWD vehicle. Some consolation that Ford didn't continue Falcon as a FWD Chinese import. It's like living life as a quadriplegic (commodore) vs being carried away in a casket (falcon). Holden probably still assume the masses will slurp it up because it wears a Holden badge.

Can actually see a lot of styling details in those shots, seems it will be a looker. The base models might be meh but the performance models will be worth a look.

I'd rather they let the Commodore name die with dignity. This is probably the only advantage Holden has, a 4 door turbo V6 AWD.

It probably will sell no where near as much as the Commodore but out of Holden and Ford it is the closest you will get so who knows. The Ford range will win everywhere else though.

Chrysler are probably licking their lips because that will be the only 4 door V8 going that is even comparable to what we have now

The writer of the article states 'With the slow extinction of V8s they will have a supercharged V6'.I thought a high percentage of Commodores sold were V8s.

Correct. Holden are in trouble when the commo goes.

I agree, it seems sad to keep the iconic name going when the car is not made here and in traditional form / configuration.

Doesn't make ANY sense and is completely contrary to what we already know and have heard.

Holden ALREADY sell the Insignia here.
It's called, the "Insignia"

The Commodore will be built in China as a Buick, based on a LWB version of the "Epsillon" (Insignia) platform.
Whilst the base models won't offer much performance, the Chinese penchant for LWB (chauffeur driven) variants should at least ensure its a decent size.

Still waiting to see what Holden will introduce to satisfy the Bogans.
Silverados perhaps?

The bogans will be plenty happy with years of life out of their VN commo's.
Not many bogans buy new so they will be safe for a few years yet

Very true
I was only commenting on the commodore bogans, not the falcon bogans such as myself

P platers have many more years of single spinning days left too. Its more the middle income older bogans who will suffer, the rich will resort to the amgs and m's for a rwd tail happy thrill. The everyday hero who feels the need to fishy out of a roundabout will have to settle for a 2wd hi lux as a mustang will be out of reach, the ss is gone, and awd or power under steer of a FWD doesn't look anywhere as cool as going gutter to gutter in a reasonably priced car with the goods to make it happen.

If the marketing is done right, it'll sell.

If there is a well priced 4 door turbo'd AWD version that lends itself to tuning that will also give the performance family orientated crowd something to consider.

It's a bit early yet to call Commodore dead.

Wait till the new V6 AWD starts spanking the current fords and Commodores , that will wipe the smile off your face. And again it looks like ford missed the boat. They may a well just go home.

Define "spanking"?
I'm sure there are plenty of fully sic turbo ricers that might be faster round a given circuit than a GT.
So what?

Pretty Sure my XR4 would spank a factory spec GTHO around most circuits. Know anyone who'd like to swap?

Clearly I have this interweb thing all wrong. Apparently what I should be doing is joining "NissanRicer.com" then telling everyone there how **** their cars are.

Alledged 300kw and AWD should get it moving pretty swift. Interested in the torque though.

If it’s a well sorted and setup car along the lines of the well known big three German manufacturers of Euros sedans it won’t need massive amounts of power to get mobile, good engineering does that.

There is a rumour it might not even be a sedan, but a 5 door hatch and wagon.

Definitely coming from Germany though, one of the deals that GM made with German unions.

I've done some research and the new LaCrosse rides on a 2905mm wheelbase compared to the 2016 Malibu ( and expectedly, Insignia's) 2829mm wheelbase, which is less of a jump from VF's 2915, plus a transverse chassis would liberate more room.

South Korea makes the Lacrosse as well, interestingly and it is the only E2XX variant with an NA V6 (230kW 3.6). But the Malibu and Insignia already get a 183kW/400Nm 2.0T, with 9-A coming to top spec Malibu. The new 3.0 Cadillac V6 would be a good unit for VXR/OPC/SS, while the ATS-V's 340kW TT3.6 could be a good starting point for HSV- heck if they're good enough they might even be exported to Europe, or, at the very least the spec copied. You're not going to get 400+kW right off the bat but the lighter body and AWD should see comparable performance. Will need 4s 0-100 to still capture the same demographic, or focus on massaged Captivas and Astras.

I find Wheels' assumption about no sedan to be off base- there'll be a Buick Regal sedan which is the same as Insignia- I can't see Holden adding this radical body restriction on top of 4-cyl, FWD, import etc. I guess it's widely speculated that it will come from Russelheim but E2XX variants will be built in Korea, China and USA as well.

Also bear in mind Holden had prepared an E2XX successor to build here from 2018-2022 if the additional $500m govt funding wasn't cut. Be interesting to see if they are able to get this unique variant made, or if it just be a re-badge job. IMHO they'll want an NA V6 option, unique front and rear styling+ chassis tuning and not the same interior theme as Opel or it will be far too removed from VF for anyone to accept it as a Commodore.

How successful it is will depend entirely how much individuality and flavour Holdens engineers are allowed to imbue it with. Which will depend how much flexibility the production line has (wherever that is) and budget- which might hinge on the success of international design projects like Indian cars as well as profit generated by VF ( what's not absorbed by shutdown). What form and how much differentiation it gets will depend entirely on the development budget put aside for Commodore.
