I have asked around and also searched around for info on the minimum requirement that a passenger vehicle in Victoria is required to have.
A discussion was started over a few drinks about getting a older car and stripping it back to basics... but how basic can you go legally? It obviously needs lights, indicators, screen, etc but does it need any seats except for the drivers? Does it need any interior at all? Can the door glass be swapped out for perspex or similar? etc The main idea is to get a old falcon that is completely road legal and registered, then sending it down the quarter mile or around a racetrack and see how fast it goes. Then strip it down as far as possible, while still keeping it roadworthy, then send it to the track again... and so on and forth. Will be interested to hear peoples input about how basic we can go!! Have a nice day

I don't think it has to have windows at all.But if it has them they must open and close properly,no need for spare wheel. The main RWC items are susp, brakes steering, tyres and no structural body corrosion.Headlights ,indicators etc

Agree with xisled, start taking parts off/out will attract police attention, they will then issue a canary with inspection incomplete which will require you to do a RWC, then you will definitely find out what is required to get back on the road.

Thanks,
But unless you can give me a specific link to a page, that website is no help. Cause I couldn't find anything on I there about what I'm asking for.

You can probably strip the stereo out or anything aftermarket. and the spare tyer is not required. anything else would need to be there and working.
But I can save you the hassle. an old Falcon with or without a 100kg bloke in the passenger seat will be just as slow.

A lot of the posts in here are somewhat,!misleading. I'd suggest that you speak to the guy who you will be taking it to for a roadworthy. He would likely appreciate some time to think about the question and do some double checking before answering.
Roadworthy checks work like this... The date on the vehicles compliance plate, along with the category of vehicle (also on the compliance plate) will determine what features are required to be present and working for that car. So the minimum varies from year to year, vehicle category to vehicle category. So there is no answer to your question. |
