Post Maybe Ford Aus can Learn from Nissan Aus ???

Emery says the business case merited killing off the underperforming models "though I have no doubt some of our rural dealers will have a tear in their eyes over the Y61".

He says the short-term focus is to offset the projected loss of 6000 sales by improving sales of its Qashqai, X-Trail and Pathfinder SUVs.

Pathfinder is up around 500 (sales) a month.

"We don't need extra models in the market, we need to do a better job with the ones we've got," he says.

Emery cites rising Pathfinder sales and a backlog of orders for Y62 petrol Patrols as examples of how and where the brand can grow.

"I've said before I thought the Y62 was priced arrogantly (when it launched in 2013) … we did a disservice to that car. When we repositioned it (trimming $23,000 from the price), it took off and now we're having problems getting enough. My comment : Everest Titanium???

"Four years ago we were selling 250 Pathfinders a month and I was having to spend on promotions and incentives to do it. Now Pathfinder is up around 500 a month." http://www.carsguide.com.au/car-news...ustralia-40889

It makes you think how much it costs to make a Y62 when they can drop 23k out of its price and still make money..

why would Ford drop the price of the Everest when they are selling them all?

Read the title and "hoped" it was going to be about AFTER SALES CARE
Seems Ford haven't learnt/taught their dealers
Great products though

It does take competition between manufacturers to bring out their best, benefiting us the consumer

Ford Aus learned from Nissan Australia already. Nissan realised making cars in Australia was not profitable 30 years ago and just gave up. So did Ford, 30 years later. Ford will soon be on the same level as Nissan. Just another importer in the rat race.

Pathfinder Sales are probably up because they changed it from a Navara based 4WD SUV that was a bit of truck to drive to a car like SUV.
It changed soo much I don't even know why they kept the Pathfinder name, I recon it would sell better with a new name I mean what's a Qashqai?

Interesting whilst Nissan has moved away from the ute based 4x4 SUV and Mitsubishi have replaced two models with one. Ford, Isuzu, Holden and Toyota have put more into it.

who's doing the right thing?

along with everyone else,

2015 Car Sales Ford were one place ahead of Nissan selling 4392 cars more than them, so they already are on the same Level along with Mitsubishi.

Their marketing stinks. Cringeworthy and unlikely to sell any cars. They could spent that marketing money on improving their dealer network and after sales service instead. Or just be lazy and screen the U.S. Ads and flip the scenes to turn LHD into RHD. The blue lady and metro/alternative background music is just horrible, would be much better suited to Bunnings, Masters or Harvey Norman than selling motor vehicles. Shocking to see how far the once great and mighty Blue oval has fallen. Unsure if Mustang sales will always remain this high, it really is a niche vehicle and lacks in practicality, likely many will be weekender garage cars. The focus, fiesta, mondeo et al aren't really inspiring or aspirational vehicles, and the market leaders in these segments are way ahead and have much better dealer and after sales support. What's left.. Thai Rangers and Everests. Ford had better hope and pray that they don't catch fire like the test vehicle did.

I thought this might have been about keeping some manufacturing in Australia, like Nissan does with their aluminium parts manufacturing plant in Dandenong.

Ford have already done some dropping of 'poor sales quality' models eg Focus Ambiente. I'm sure the dealers don't miss the volume at all...

Pathfinder started out as a body on chassis vehicle, went monocoque, then back to chassis and now its monocoque again.

Yes I know, its suffers a bit of an identity Crisis,
I don't know why the didn't Just change the name like they did for Duallis changing it to Qashqai (which I couldn't help but Google its some sort of Turkish Tribe).

Apparently the 3rd gen pathfinder was a bit of a fail for sales so they went back to unibody.

I really like the current Pathfinder, just not sold on CVT but it seems to be working out ok.

If they could combine the CTV with a Turbo diesel to keep it in the power band it would be a cracker

You mean put their eggs in one basket and screw themselves over if the market shifts? That was Ford's strategy years ago with the Falcon....it worked miracles for them

Just bought one of these(Qashqai).(replaced the XR6 Ecolpi ute.) wife is finding it increasingly hard to climb in & out of(as I am sometimes!)anyhow, really great vehicle, very well finished off, could not fault the dealer, kept us in the "loop" until car was picked up.Really nice young guy(ex auto sparky.) really knew his stuff, did not try & "bs" us in any way or form.Did look at the Kuga, but way over priced for what you get(base motor is a 1.6) Qashqai runs rings around it.Cheers

Everest is not really in the same category as a Patrol.

Besides, I'm sure most people won't lose sleep if the Thai built Ford isn't marketed so well.

Yes I know,but..I did seriously look at Kuga, but they want to much for it(starting at $32990.)really think the Qashqai is better value & personally think it will hold up better over the years.Really well put together & nicely finished off.Never thought I would leave the brand, but there you go.Cheers

I'm not begrudging your choice, I went with my sister recently to get her a new car and she settled on a Honda, only because she could get it for 5 grand cheaper than the Nissan.
