Don't get too excited as it was the old Hilux vs the updated Ranger. Even the Triton outsold the Hilux. Once the new Hilux is released it will be back above the Ranger

In NZ the Ranger outsold the Hilux all of last year, and it is ahead this year.

I'm fairly certain they weren't released until late August so you're probably right. In saying that though, there are heaps at the local dealer and I have probably already seen more new Rangers than FGX Falcons on the road in the last week or so.

Congrats to Ranger but there's a long list of pre-orders for the new Hilux. Toyota has been clearing stock of the current model all year anyway and with release 2 weeks away (give or take) you'd be mad to buy a Hilux now.

I wonder if there will be any run-out sales on old Ranger's and Hilux's?

Its so surprising the Ranger has not been outselling the hilux for at least a year or two.

Still the ute I'd spend my money on. Can't beat truck reliability. Brother inlaw has a Colorado with the 2.8 and it is quick but vibrates like hell and blew up at 137km. Now the new motor uses 4.5l of oil per 15000km |

I've driven several that could easily do that, benefit of working for a Ford dealership that sells Isuzu. We also had to move apprentices from Isuzu service to Ford service as all they'd done were oil/filter changes though one had changed two injectors in two years. In the Ford service area they get to do real repairs, especially manual gearboxes!

Your comments' in another thread encouraged me to look into the DMAX more.
What I found was despite the others having better power and torque figures the D-Max had the best 0-100 time. all except the 550NM Navarra (old model now) it also offered the best fuel economy. yes its has older tech, and looks a bit bland compared to the others but it stacks up well. the others aren't Crap though, they beat it on looks and refinement

have a new model dmax 3.0 (manual), and would you believe I get 7.5-7.8 litres per hundred, and thats with it floored everywhere, and sitting on at least 110 on the highways. Cant believe it actually!
My light comes on at around 880km usually, I ran it to 980km (100 on the light) Filled up and did ~7.5! In saying that it is a work car, and the last driver has worn the synchro in 3rd, and its going in for a week long gearbox pull apart! (80,000km). They say that the gearbox is straight from a landcrusier ute. |
